Ladies Prominent

We still have seven ladies alive in today's field which makes up more than 10% of the remaining players. It's great to see such a high percentage of women doing well in this event.

Celina Lin has been very active lately moving all in over the top of two recent opening raises to move up over 20,000, while all players are chasing Tasha Ellis who is still out in front with 90,000 chips.

Te Doubles through Roh

William Te Jr.
William Te Jr.
A massive pot was brewing between William Te Jr. and Chris Roh. Te check-called a bet of 4,200 from Roh on a flop of {2-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}. When the turn came {10-Diamonds}, Te checked again. Roh, who had Te well covered, moved all in. Te called all in for less, a total of 16,150.

Roh: {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts}
Te: {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}

Te asked for a black card, and got his wish when the river came {A-Spades}. As a result of that double-up, he has well more than 40,000 in chips.

Here Comes Sirens!

Van Marcus
Van Marcus
After slipping down a little since the dinner break, Australian Van "Sirens" Marcus has just turned things around holding pocket aces against an opponent's pocket jacks.

All the chips were in the middle preflop, with the board running out {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{K-Clubs} to send the pot to Marcus and eliminate his opponent.

Marcus is now up to around 28,000 chips.

Priscilla, Queen of the Felt

The run of Priscilla Meirelles continues after she just sent two players to the rail.

"I normally don't call with this hand!" laughed Meirelles as she tabled {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} to be in front of her opponents who held {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} respectively.

"Keep it low!" Meirelles cried and the board co-operated when it arrived {3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. She is now in great shape with about 35,000 chips.

Marcus Not Done Yet

Van Marcus
Van Marcus
Just minutes after his last victory, Van Marcus was involved in the biggest hand of the day so far. Tasha Ellis opened the preflop betting with a raise to 1,700 that Marcus reraised to 5,000 from the small blind. Ellis called, and the two players took a flop of {3-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {6-Diamonds}. Marcus, as first to act, made it 7,000 to go. Ellis called.

Both players checked the turn {9-Diamonds}. The river {9-Clubs} paired the board and brought an all-in bet from Marcus of 24,100. Ellis went deep into the tank, staring at the board without any indication of what to do. She was in the tank for at least three or four minutes, long enough for every player at the table except Marcus and Ellis to get up and stretch their legs. Ellis finally made the call, with Marcus triumphantly turning over {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}. Ellis nodded and mucked.

That pot was worth approximately 74,000 chips for Marcus.

Nelson Escapes Big Hand?

Derwin Wong opened with a raise to 1,600 before Lee Nelson re-popped it to 4,000 in position. The blinds folded and Wong made the call.

The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and both players checked. The turn was the {10-Spades} and again the action checked through after some deliberation from Nelson. The river landed the {5-Spades} and Wong fired out a 5,000 bet. Nelson quickly folded as Wong threw his head back in the air in disgust as if Nelson had escaped a big hand. Wong is up to 39,000 with Nelson still comfortable with about 20,000.

Obst Struggling

James "Andy McLEOD" Obst
James "Andy McLEOD" Obst
James Obst is an 18-year-old online phenom, who has caused many sensations in the online poker world over the past few years under the alias "Andy McLEOD". His first steps into the live poker scene have yet to produce a result, but he has been hanging tough today as he looks to make it through to Day 2.

However, he recently took a hit after calling the all-in from a short-stacked player in late position. Obst held an innocent looking {A-Clubs}{8-Spades} but it was the best hand as the short stack was making a move at the blinds with {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

The flop was not what Obst wanted to see when it was spread {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, giving his opponent a flush draw. The turn was even worse for Obst when the {K-Spades} peeled off to pair his opponent's king. The river bricked the {Q-Spades} and Obst doubles up his opponent and falls back to about 14,000.
