A New Chip Leader Emerges

In no-limit hold'em, all it takes is one big hand. Alexander Soderlund got his one big hand when he rivered a full house on a board of {5-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}. Soderlund's opponent led out for 6,000, a bet that Soderlund raised to 17,000. His opponent asked him for a count (about 24,000 behind), then shoved all in for a total of 48,000. Soderlund snap-called and was shown a stone bluff, {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}. Soderlund tabled his {10-Spades} {10-Clubs} to take down a 92,000-chip pot and take over the chip lead.

Gray Doubles

Jason Gray
Jason Gray
Jason Gray has just found a solid double-up after the chips went into the middle on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}.

Gray held {K-Spades}{6-Hearts} to be in great shape as he out-kicked his opponent's {6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, as both players had flopped trips.

The turn was the {4-Clubs} and river the {8-Hearts} to double Gray up to 26,800 chips.

Holmes Crippled by Rockets

Richard Holmes
Richard Holmes
After a series of preflop raises, Richard Holmes committed all of his chips into the middle, but his opponent Guillaume Lignon snap-called with {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}. Holmes cringed as he was in trouble with his {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

The board bricked out and Lignon doubled up to 44,000, leaving Holmes crippled with only 2,600 chips.

Grunter Survives

Grant Levy surviving with the short stack
Grant Levy surviving with the short stack
Grant Levy committed his last 4,500 chips with {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} but ran into the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} of his opponent.

Levy's title defense was hanging by a thread until the flop was spread {4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, giving Levy a two-outer to the roar of the nearby spectators.

The turn was the {3-Spades} and river the {7-Hearts}, giving Levy a much needed double-up. He's back to 10,000 chips and has a pulse in this tournament once again.

Angelakis Straight Out the Door

Jason Gray
Jason Gray
Game over for Con Angelakis. He and one other player called a bet of 1,500 from Jason Gray on a board of {J-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {8-Spades}. When the turn came {6-Diamonds}, Gray didn't slow down. He bet 4,000, folding one player but eliciting an all-in raise to 11,000 from Angelakis. Gray snap-called with the nuts, {Q-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}. Angelakis had top pair {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} and was drawing dead. The {4-Hearts} on the river eliminated him from the tournament.

Gray now has 38,000 chips.
