Ma Comes Back from Dinner to a Double

Zhi Hong Ma is off on the right foot with his post-dinner play. He flopped a set of queens against a sole opponent who committed all of his 12,700 chips to the pot on a flop of {Q-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {2-Clubs} with pocket nines. Ma made an easy call. He had to take just the slightest bit of sweat when the {9-Clubs} hit the turn but the river was a harmless {8-Hearts}. Ma is now sitting behind 31,000 chips.

Pickering's Turn

A new look for Jamie Pickering
A new look for Jamie Pickering
Jamie Pickering trusted his tournament life to a big draw. The flop {6-Spades} {K-Spades} {10-Diamonds} fit perfectly with the hand he had been dealt, {Q-Spades} {J-Spades}. Pickering therefore raised all in for 23,875 after his opponent opened the betting to 2,200. Pickering's opponent hit the flop with a draw of his own, showing {10-Spades} {9-Spades} after he called the raise. The {4-Hearts} that hit the turn did not change anything, but Pickering made a pair of queens with the {Q-Diamonds} river to win the hand and double up to about 51,000.

Karamalikis' Dessert Turns Sour

Jonathan Karamalikis has enjoyed his dinner, but hasn't enjoyed his dessert quite so much. His dessert was in the form of pocket aces, but unfortunately for him, they turned sour when the board fell {10-Spades}{J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

Karamalikis had called 6,000 chip bets on the turn and river but his opponent tabled {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for two pair to collect the pot. Karamalikis slips to 53,000.

Doubles for All!

There's been a fair bit of doubling action since players came back from dinner. Lee Nelson got in on the act, courtesy of Andrew Scarf. Scarf started the betting with a raise to 1,350 before Nelson made it 4,000 to go. Scarf pushed for 14,000 and was snap-called by Nelson, who showed {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}. He was up against Scarf's {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs} and sent Scarf to the rail when the board came {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {J-Spades} {4-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}.

It's been a tough day for Nelson so far, but perhaps he can get something started now that he has 37,000 chips.

Milinkovic Doubles Through Goonawardana

On a flop of {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs}, Marlon Goonawardana checked the action over to Vera Milinkovic who fired out a 3,000 chip bet. Goonawardana then decided to check-raise to 15,000, which was enough to put Milinkovic to a decision for her tournament life.

She made the call with {A-?}{J-?} as Goonawardana was caught making a move with pocket fours.

The turn and river bricked out {8-Hearts}, {2-Diamonds} and Milinkovic doubles to 23,500 with Goonawardana slipping back to 30,000.

Chu, Huntly Trade Some Chips

The board showed {8-Spades} {9-Clubs} {J-Hearts}. Hai Bo Chu was all in. When action got to Dennis Huntly, he probed for information.

"Do you want me to call?" Huntly asked Chu.

"If I say yes, will you call?" Chu asked back. Huntly said yes. "Ok, I want you to call," said Chu. And call is what Huntly did, tabling {A-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}. Chu had the same draw, but had also flopped top pair with {J-Spades} {10-Spades}. His pair held when the turn and river were {5-Clubs} and {K-Clubs}.

Chu now has 21,000 and Huntly has 23,400. Both are getting short with limits at 250 / 500 / 50.

Darscht Loves the Ladies

Sergej Darscht
Sergej Darscht
APPT field, say hello to Sergej Darscht. He's climbed up the ranks of the leaderboard by flopping a set of queen's and rivering a full house against a player's trip aces. The final board of {Q-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {J-Spades} {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} made a winner out of Darscht's {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} and a loser out of his opponent's {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}. Darscht's stack has increased to 87,000 chips as a result.
