Wooka Still Fighting

Wooka Kim hasn't been able to do anything today, sitting back as her stack has slowly bled away. She moved all in with {A-Spades} {10-Hearts} and was called by a player who showed pocket threes. Kim hit a ten on the flop to stay alive and double up to 21,000.

Vos Out

Mark Vos
Mark Vos
Mark Vos has met his demise at the hands of Ray Lapitan. Lapitan was the preflop raiser, making it 6,000 from middle position with Mark Vos calling out of the big blind.

The flop came down {7-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Vos checked to Lapitan, who fired out 7,000. Vos then check-raised to 22,000 before Lapitan moved all in, putting Vos to a decision for his tournament life. Vos made the call with {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a flush draw but Lapitan had flopped two pair with {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}.

It was all over when the {Q-Diamonds} hit the turn to give Lapitan a full house and leave Vos drawing dead. The river was a meaningless {K-Clubs} and Vos departs the Star City Casino as Lapitan climbs to over 200,000 chips.

Assadourian Doubles Through Griffin

It's another twist in the road for Gavin Griffin. He called Eric Assadourian's raise to 5,500 out of the big blind after two other players called it before him. All action passed to Assadourian on a flop of {K-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}. He led out for 8,000 and was called only by Griffin.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds}. Griffin checked again, bringing an all-in bet of 40,800 from Assadourian. Griffin went deep into the tank before opting to call with {K-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}, top pair and a gutshot draw. Only the draw was good; Assadourian tabled {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades} for a set of jacks. He filled on the river {K-Hearts} to double up to 120,000. Gavin Griffin is down to 84,000.

Dinner Break

As the players head off for dinner break we have just ticked into the final 100 players. The remaining 99 players will be back on the felt in one hour at 7:40pm local time.

Pre-Dinner Eliminations

There was a flurry of activity as we came to the dinner break. Ivan Tan, Tom Guise, and Gavin Griffin were all eliminated from the tournament.

Tan and Guise went out at the same time at the hands of Simon Wallace. The three players got all the chips in on a flop of {J-Spades} {10-Spades} {3-Hearts}. Guise showed {K-Spades} {J-Clubs}; Tan showed pocket threes for bottom set; Wallace showed pocket tens for middle set. Wallace's set held through the river. He's now on 200,000 in chips, while Guise and Tan are both on the rail.

Griffin may have been reeling from a previous hand in which he lost out to Eric Assadourian's set of jacks. He raised to 5,000 from the cutoff prior to the big blind, with Michael Whibley reraising to 15,000. Griffin shipped it all in from there and was snap-called by Whibley.

Griffin: {A-?} {8-?}
Whibley: {A-?} {Q-?}

Griffin actually took the lead on the flop, {A-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}, but Whibley outdrew him on the turn by hitting the {Q-Hearts}. The {K-Hearts} finished out the board and sent Griffin to the rail.

Cooking With Gas

Gregory Cook came back from dinner and found queens in his pocket. He opened the pot with a raise to 6,000, and may have been salivating despite his full stomach when the cutoff player reraised to 21,000. With action back to Cook, he shoved all in for 88,000. The cutoff double-fist-pump-snap-called and tabled {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. The story was looking grim after a flop of {9-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}, but Cook spiked the {Q-Spades} on the turn to take the lead. He doubled up when the river fell {2-Diamonds} and eliminated his opponent, whom he just barely had covered.

Cook is up to 175,000.

Pickering's Turn (Again!)

Jamie Pickering is the chip leader
Jamie Pickering is the chip leader
Hard to believe, but we've had another queens into aces hand in which a queen has spiked on the turn. The beneficiary this time was PLO player extraordinaire Jamie Pickering, who was involved in a three-way all in against a player with {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} and another with {A-Hearts} {2-Hearts}. Pickering's hand was best on the {9-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {7-Hearts} board. He now has a whopping 290,000 chips.

Whibley Cracks Gray's Kings

Jason Gray
Jason Gray
Jason Gray was a runaway chip leader on day 1b, but today he's been very quiet -- apparently content to sit on his big stack and wait for premium holdings. However his passive approach caught him out in the following hand.

Michael Whibley raised to 4,000 from the cutoff and Jason Gray made the call in the cutoff. They saw a {7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop where Whibley fired out 9,000 and again Gray called.

The turn was the {5-Hearts} and both players checked and received a free {10-Diamonds} on the river. Whibley checked again to Gray who fired 15,000 into the middle. Whibley called and Gray tabled pocket kings however Whibley's {5-Spades}{4-Spades} had made two pair to crack Gray's slowplayed monster.

Whibley is up to 230,000 with Gray back down into the pack.
