A Curly One for Seal

Seal Busto
Seal Busto
Emanuel Seal has been sent to the exit in unfortunate circumstances. He held {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} as his opponent made a move with {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. All the chips were in preflop and Seal appeared to be in great shape for a double-up.

However the board fell cruelly for Seal, as it landed {5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{J-Clubs}{3-Hearts} to make a straight for his opponent and eliminate "Curly" from the tournament.

From the Feature Table

Two happenings of note on the feature table. Petar Lackovic has eliminated an opponent and increased his chip stack to 82,000. A series of preflop raises ended with an all-in confrontation between Lackovic and his opponent. Lackovic showed {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}, in front of his opponent's {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. Lackovic wound up with a full house on a board of {K-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {J-Hearts}.

A few minutes later, a player turned up at the feature table with AU$10,000 in cash. He was looking for a high-stakes cash game. "Wrong table," deadpanned TD Danny McDonagh.

Recent Eliminations

Nobbi Tanaka has joined the dearly departed. He open-shoved for 17,000 with {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs} and was called by Antonis Kambouris with {10-Spades} {10-Hearts}. Tanaka flopped top pair, {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, but Kambouris turned his gutshot draw, {8-Spades}, leaving Tanaka drawing dead to a chop.

Carter Gill has also been eliminated. He shoved his last 57,000 into the middle over the 10,000-chip flop bet of George Kassis with the board showing {6-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. Kassis called with {10-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}, giving himself two blockers against Gill's {K-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}. The turn {10-Spades} made two pair for Kassis, which were good after the river bricked {8-Clubs}.

Edmonds Climbing

Those over the Tasman at SKYCITY Auckland will be disappointed to hear that Brooke Howard Smith is a recent casualty from today's field.

Smith had raised from the cutoff to 4,200 with Brendan Edmonds making the call in the big blind. They saw a {J-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop and Edmonds checked to Smith, who moved all in for 31,500. Edmonds made the call.

Edmonds tabled {9-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for just middle pair but it was a great call as Smith showed {Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a bare flush draw. The turn and river bricked {3-Spades}, {K-Hearts} and Smith was sent to the rail as Edmonds climbs into the top five chip leaders with 184,500 chips.

So Long Huntly

Dennis Huntly got it in good with {A-?}{K-?}. His opponent, Daniel Hameiri, called him with {K-Spades} {J-Spades}, leaving Huntly in prime position to double up. But the flop came down {Q-?} {J-?} {Q-?}, leaving Huntly to draw at an ace or a ten. He couldn't find either; the board ran out {2-?} {7-?}. He shrugged and smiled before making his way outside the tournament ropes.

Ivan Tan Sighting

It's been a very, very tough day for Ivan Tan. He hasn't been able to get anything going through almost four full rounds of play. He did get a few more chips to work with by calling a late-position all-in bet of 12,300 with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}. His opponent showed {6-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. Both players hit the {7-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} flop, but Tan was best as the turn fell {7-Clubs} and the river fell {10-Spades}. He sent his opponent to the rail and is up to 41,000.

Basile Finds Aces

Roberto Damelian has taken a huge dent at the hands of Tony Basile.

Basile opened with a raise from under the gun to 4,800 before Damelian popped it up to 14,400 from middle position. The table folded and the action was back with Basile, who moved all in for 67,500. Damelian made the call.

Damelian: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Basile: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

In a classic cooler the board fell {2-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Damelian falls to 132,000, with Basile now up to nearly 140,000.
