Watt Walks

Will someone step up and fill his shoes?
Will someone step up and fill his shoes?

The PokerStars.net APPT Auckland Main Event will see a new champion for 2010!

Simon Watt moved all in under the gun for roughly 5,000 with Ali Ghezelbash making the call from middle position.

Watt: {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Ghezelbash: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

With New Zealand's now-named poker prodigy at risk and drawing to just three outs, the {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds} would see both players flop a gutshot.

The {8-Hearts} on the turn changed nothing, and when the {3-Clubs} landed on the river, Watt was sent to the rail as Ghezelbash climbed to 49,000 in chips.

For Watt, he has been one of the few to buck the trend of big-time tournament winners being unable to surpass their most note-worthy achievement. Earlier this year Watt finish runner-up in the Lee Nelson Deep Stack Series Main Event before venturing to the Mecca of poker tournaments; the World Series of Poker just two months later.

It was there that the name Simon Watt became a household name as he not only bested a 2,563-player field to capture the Event 11: $1,500 No Limit Holdem bracelet, but also defeated one of the most talented players in the game heads up - none other than Tom 'durrrr' Dwan.

Watt went on to cash two more times at the WSOP; including in the Main Event, before returning to Australia and the Victorian Poker Championships where he made two final tables.

For this 27-year old, it is just the start of his poker career, and although he may not have fared well in his title defense, expect to see the name Simon Watt in poker circles for many years to come!

Boxell Busts Another

A short-stacked player found himself all in for his last 2,675 with Leo Boxell making the call.

Boxell: {8-Spades}{7-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{5-Spades}

The final board read {7-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{J-Hearts} to see Boxell eliminate another and move to 26,000 in chips.

Dodds Sends One Packing

Joel Dodds is the next player to send a short-stacked player packing.

Four players saw a limped flop of {10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} as Dodds check-raised all in over the short-stacks all in for just over 3,000 as the remaining active players folded.

Dodds: {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

The turn and river landed the {A-Diamonds} and {3-Clubs} to see Dodds eliminate his opponent and climb to 22,000 in chips.

From WCOOP to APPT . . . The Mads 'moumaife84' Smith-Hansen Story

Mads 'moumaife84' Smith-Hansen has finally vacated the virtual felt
Mads 'moumaife84' Smith-Hansen has finally vacated the virtual felt

With a raise to 39,600, moumaife84 made the call from the button to see a {5-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop fall and Tjollerboy fire out a 43,600 continuation-bet.

moumaife84 then pushed out a raise of 111,111 only to have Tjollerboy bump it to 864,000 to effectively put moumaife84 all in, and following a slight delay, moumaife84 made the call for his 348,205.

moumaife84: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Tjollerboy: {A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}

The turn and river landed the {3-Clubs} and {J-Clubs} to see moumaife84 eliminated by Tjollerboy's turned straight.

Errrr . . . you may be wondering what exactly we're talking about because surely someone doesn't have over a million chips so early in the tournament.

Well, one of the PokerStars Player's from Cyprus out of Denmark was a registered participant in today's flight.

However Mads 'moumaife84' Smith-Hansen was a no show as the tournament began, and after talking to his brother and doing some research of our own, it was discovered that Smith-Hansen was running deep in the WCOOP Event 28: $1,050 No Limit Holdem (Two-Day).

That deep run - as you can see from the above hand - ended in 11th place for a $12,610.40 payday, which is just a few places shy of the final table and the potential $230,000 first prize payout.

Smith-Hansen may not be able to collect that same amount for first here in Auckland, but after just taking his seat behind his 11,100-chip stack, Smith-Hansen will no doubt have the confidence to give it a red hot crack as he looks to record same-day PokerStars tournament cashes!

With a limp under the gun, Nauv Kashyap entered the pot with a raise to 2,000 next to act only to have a player in middle position move all in for slightly over 15,000.

The limper folded and Kashyap made the call to put his opponent at risk.

Kashyap: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} to see Kashyap eliminate his opponent and move to 61,000 in chips.

Barrett Surging

Josh Barrett opened under the gun with a raise to 1,250 and found a caller in Richard Lancaster before the player in the cutoff moved all in for 7,600.

The button tank-folded what he said (after the hand) to be pocket sevens as the action returned to Barrett who moved all in for roughly 24,500 to prompt a fold from Lancaster.

Barrett: {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Opponent: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

The board rolled out {2-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{J-Spades}{7-Spades} to see Barrett dispatch of his opponent and move to roughly 33,000 in chips.

Kemp Clips Edwards

On a flop of {3-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}, Luke Edwards lead out for 1,600 only to have Jai Kemp bump it to 4,500.

Edwards made the call before both players checked the {7-Hearts} on the turn as the {5-Diamonds} landed on the river.

Edwards fired out 6,000 only to have Kemp move all in for roughly 17,000 to force Edwards to fold while he slipped to 14,000 and Kemp climbed to 35,000 in chips.

SEABEAST Snuffed Out

Jay 'SEABEAST' Kinkade
Jay 'SEABEAST' Kinkade

Jay 'SEABEAST' Kinkade entered the pot from the hijack with a raise to 1,025 which fellow online player Koray Turker called from the button.

Kinkade checked the {J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} flop as Turker fired out 1,425 which Kinkade called before he checked the {3-Hearts} on the turn and Turker made it 3,700 to go.

Making the call once again, Kinkade was faced with a bet of roughly 10,000 when the river landed the {9-Spades} to effectively put him all in. Kinkade obliged, but mucked at the sight of Turker's {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} as he soared to 52,000 in chips on the back of Kinkade's elimination.
