Mariakis Dented

Michael Mariakis
Michael Mariakis

Michael Mariakis has just taken a step back today after doubling a short-stacked opponent.

Mariakis: {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Hearts}{8-Spades}

The board ran out {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} to see Mariakis slip to 30,000 in chips as we near the end of the day.

Lai Legged

Leo Boxell
Leo Boxell

Leo Boxell opened to 2,200 from early position only to have Dan Lai move all in for 8,525 from the cutoff. As the action passed back to Boxell, he made the call to put the local cash game regular at risk.

Boxell: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Lai: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{9-Clubs} to see Boxell eliminate Lai and climb to 65,000 in chips.

Straight Flush for Lancaster

We are unsure exactly how the hand played out, but on a board of {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, Richard Lancaster and Josh Barrett exchanged chips freely.

Barrett tabled his {3-Hearts}{3-Spades} for a flopped set, but it would be Lancaster's {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a turned straight flush that would see him end the note on a high climbing to 35,000 as Barrett slipped to just 12,000.

Day 1b All Done; ANZPT Champion Kashyap Leading!

Chip Leader Nauv Kashyap
Chip Leader Nauv Kashyap

With night upon us, and seven levels of intense tournament poker behind us, Day 1b of the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Auckland Main Event is all wrapped up.

129 players took to the felt today to take the total field size to 218 - a forty-five player loss upon last year - but with that small drop, the calibre of the players made up for it as players such as Team PokerStars Pro and ANZPT Perth Champion Tony Hachem, ANZPT Queensland Champion Scott Kerr, 2008 New Zealand Poker Championships winner David Borg, online gun Jay Kinkade and of course defending APPT Auckland and WSOP Bracelet winner Simon Watt all taking to the felt.

Unfortunately the above mentioned, along with the Michael Spilkin and PokerStars Online Qualifiers Mishel Anunu, Daren Yoon and Mads Smith-Hansen, all found themselves watching from the sidelines as only 55 players managed to survive the day to bag their chips and join the 41 from yesterday.

ANZPT Gold Coast Champion Nauv Kashyap is the one that everyone is chasing - and although he was unable to finish in the six-figure club like Day 1a chip leader Noah Vogelman - as he managed to amass a 99,075-chip stack to be in great position to capture his second PokerStars title. Koray Turker (87,075), Michael Kroger (79,400), Julius Colman (78,025) and Leo Boxell (64,075 ) all sit within striking distance while New Zealanders Mike King (58,700), Lance Climo (48,800), Lee Nelson (39,625), Richard Lancaster (35,275) and Australians Raj Ramakrishnan (41,225), Jai Kemp (24,200) and Joel Dodds (20,925) all remain in contention on Day 2.

Play is set to begin tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. NZST with both the Day 1 flights merging together to create a field of 96 that will likely play down to the money. As usual, the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on the floor providing the continuous live coverage from the 2010 PokerStars.net APPT Auckland Main Event live from the SKYCITY Auckland Casino!
