Kwon Takes It

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

The play was folded to Jose Severino in the small blind and he put in enough chips to make the call. Taewook Kwon was in the big blind and he looked down at his cards before making it 47,000 to go. Severino put in the extra chips and some cards were dealt on the felt.

Flop: {8-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts}

When Severino checked the flop, Kwon casually pulled 38,000 worth of chips from his stack and flicked them out in front of him. Severino didn't want to rumble this hand, opting to fold and send the pot to Kwon.

Kim Chipping Up

From under the gun, Andrew Kim raised to 47,000. In the hijack seat, Taewook Kwon reraised to 111,000. Action folded back to Kim and he made the call.

The flop came down {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Kim checked. Kwon checked behind and the {10-Hearts} paired the board on the turn. Kim fired 200,000 and Kwon folded his hand.

Huge Hand Vaults Kim To Chip Lead

Andrew Kim now on top
Andrew Kim now on top

Andrew Kim is now the chip leader of the 2012 APPT Seoul Main Event. In order to get that honor, he won a massive clash with the former chip leader Moritz Ortmann. Here's how it went down.

From early position, Ortmann opened with a raise to 50,000 and play folded to Kim on the button. Kim put in a reraise and made it 150,000 to go. The two blinds folded and action fell back on Ortmann. He jammed and Kim snap-called with the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}. Ortmann held the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Kim was all in for 708,000 and the pot was worth nearly 1.5 million in chips.

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Kim's aces stayed in the lead. The turn brought the {3-Spades} and that left Ortmann needing a five on the river in order to get all he could out of this hand — half of the pot with a chop.

The river completed the board with the case {A-Hearts}. Kim made a set of aces to win the hand and land himself an enormous double. Ortmann saw well over half of his chips shipped to the other side of the table as Kim moved himself into the chip lead.

Ready, Set, Straight, Flush

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

When Jose Severino shoved holding {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, he was looking very good to knock out Taewook Kwan who went all in holding {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}.

The {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} was a safe one, but when the {9-Diamonds} turn hit the felt it was an unlucky card for Severino. Severino would need a ten or jack to take the lead.

River: {j-Diamonds}

What we didn't mention was that the jack or ten could not a be a diamond. With a flush on the board, it was a chopped pot.
