Early Chip Lead
The early chip lead goes to Finland's Mikko Turtiainen. We recently caught Turtianen in a hand with Tam Truong. We didn't manage to get all the preflop betting amounts, but Turtiainen was in the cut-off seat and Truon on the button when both players committed over 2,500 in chip each.
Flop:
On the flop, Turtiainen led out for 2,700 and Truong then popped it to 5,700. Turtiainen quickly made it another 5,000 to go and Truong got out of his seat to check his opponent's stack. Eventually Truong opted to fold, with Turtiainen having him well covered.
With that, Turtiainen took down a handy little pot and easily sits behind the largest stack in the room.

Big Hit To Yum
When we came to Claudia Yum's table, she was involved in a hand against Raymon Wu and one other opponent with a flop showing . Wu was first to act and he checked before the other player flicked out 525. Yum then made it an extra 2,300 to go and Wu got out of the before it was back on Yum's opponent. A few moments thought and Yum's opponent had clicked it back another 2,700.
Yum's opponent only had 5,000 behind and as such, Yum tumbled in enough chips to put him all in. A quick call was made by the player and the two turned their hands over.
Yum:
Opponent:
Yum would need a king or the board to pair up anything but a ten or eight to win. The on the turn was no help and the changed nothing as Yum took the big hit to her stack, while her opponent is looking healthy.

A Couple More Rumble
With such good structures and deep stacks here on the APPT, it’s not unusual to see a few players get a little out of line in the early stages. It's early days here, but we have noticed another couple of familiar players who have tangled in a hand.
Tam Truong may have had some success this year with a pair of Aussie Millions final tables, but his tournament is off to a rocky start here in Cebu.
Truong opened with a raise to 275 on the button before New Zealand’s Daniel Francis three-bet to 800 from the small blind. Not one to get pushed around, Truong came back with a four-bet to 1,875 but Francis was the real deal as he five-bet to 3,300. Truong gave a shrug and called as the flop landed .
Francis tapped the table and Truong tossed out 2,300. Francis called and the turn brought the . Both players slowed down and checked it as the completed the board on the river. Francis checked again and Truong decided to take a stab with a bet of 3,500. After several minutes of thought, Francis made a reluctant call, but it was a good call as Truong quickly threw his cards straight into the muck.
Francis didn’t have to even show as he raked in a nice early pot to move up to 29,000. Truong is back down to 13,000.

Daniel Francis | 29,000 | |
Tam Truong | 13,000 |
Team Pro Up Early
We haven't caught him in a hand yet, but it seems that Team PokerStars Pro Raymond Wu has managed to already build his stack to a touch over 30,000.

Unlucky For Occy Early
The action was opened by Octavian Voegele to 225. The player on the dealer button made the call, along with the player in the big blind.
The three players watched as a flop was dealt and the first player to act checked it to Voegele who bet out 400. The player on the button opted to call and the big-blind player got out of the way as the hit the turn.
This time Voegele would check-call a bet of 825 from his opponent and the would land on the river. Again Voegele check-called, this time when his opponent bet 1,850.
When Voegele's opponent turned over , Veogele would flash an as he sent his cards into the muck and the pot towards his opponent.

Octavian Voegele | 16,000 | -4,000 |
Early Hand
When we wandered over to the suckling pig table to perhaps get a little taste of the wonderful looking Filipino food, we noticed that Aaron Benton, Daniel Laidlaw and one other player were involved in a hand on the table next to the pig.
The three players went to a flop and the first player to act checked it to Laidlaw. A bet of 525 from Laidlaw would see Benton call and the other player get out of the way as the was dealt on the turn. This time Laidlaw would check and Benton would throw out 1,025. A call from Laidlaw and the completed the board on the river.
When Laidlaw again checked, Benton would again throw out a bet. It was 1,750 to Laidlaw and he quickly made the call which would quickly prompt Benton to slide his cards into the muck. Laidlaw did the same and took down the handy pot.

Daniel Laidlaw | 25,000 | 5,000 |
Aaron Benton | 16,000 | -4,000 |
