Fu Leads APPT Macau as 41 Players Survive Day 2

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
The man to catch - Day 2 chip leader XiaoHua Fu
The man to catch - Day 2 chip leader XiaoHua Fu

Day 2 of the 2015 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Main Event at PokerStars LIVE Macau at City of Dreams began with 188 players, but by the end of the night just 41 remained with XiaoHua Fu finishing on top with 724,000. Fu rocketed up the leader board when he knocked out both Sihai Jiang and Kai Yat Fam in the same hand holding pocket aces.

Hot on his heels are Fan Zhao (588,000), Kwet Yoong Lim Sam (580,000) and Zhenru Xie (519,000) who are the only four players over the half million-chip mark. All three of those player applied pressure around the bubble and throughout the last two levels to secure themselves big stacks heading into Day 3.

Just after the last break of the evening, the money bubble burst with Zheng Wang earning the title of bubble boy. It happened when action folded around to Yat Wai Chen, who moved all in from the small blind. Zheng called off his last few big blinds, and he had the best hand with his {a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, which was out in front of Chen’s {j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. However, the flop came down {5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{j-Spades} to give Chen trips, and Zheng was unable to improve. With that, the final 59 players secured themselves at least HK$43,600.

Others who fell during the course of play included Day 1b chip leader Jia Liang, Sparrow Cheung, Yifan Zhang, Sunny Jung, Kenny Leong, Raiden Kan, Takahiro Nakai, Winfred Yu, and Steve O'Dwyer.

O’Dwyer committed all his chips holding the {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} on a {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop and was up against an opponent’s {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Even with all his flush and straight outs. O'Dwyer was unable to find a card he needed and was sent to the rail with nothing more than a min-cash.

Meanwhile, several notable to survive the day included Alex Lee, Nicolas Cardyn, Daniel Lee, Gab Yong Kim, and Day 1a chip leader Zhifeng Yao. Those players and more will return at 2:00 p.m. local time on Saturday.

PokerNews will bring you all the action as the tournament closes in on the final table. Also, the HK$100,000 High Roller Event will be kicking off at 5:00 p.m. local time, which will also be live blogged.

Fu Busts Jiang and Fam in Huge Pot

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Xiaohua Fu
Xiaohua Fu

Sihai Jiang open-shoved from under the gun for what looked like 55,000 chips and Xiaohua Fu flat-called on the button. Kai Yat Fam then glanced at his cards and reshoved out of the big blind to isolate the short stack. Fu snap-called and that is always a very bad sign.

Jiang: {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Fam: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Fu: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}

There was no help on the {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades} board and Fu jumped to incredible 740,000 in chips.

O'Dwyer Bricks Big Draw Against Zhang

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

With around 58,000 chips in the pot on a flop of {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, Weiyi Zhang led from the small blind for 27,000 and Steve O'Dwyer moved all in for another 96,500 on top. Zhang had to give it a lot of thought but eventually made the call and they tabled their cards:

O'Dwyer: {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a straight and flush draw
Zhang: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}

Both the {5-Clubs} turn and the {Q-Clubs} river bricked and the Chinese rocketed up to 340,000 in chips while O'Dwyer headed out of the tournament area. The Irish-American may very well be back tomorrow for the HK$100,000 High Roller as of 17:00 local time.

Zheng Wang Bubbles the Main Event

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Zheng Wang
Zheng Wang

There were two all in and a call and table four was the first to determine the bubble boy while table 1 provided a split pot with {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} versus {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

It was Yat Wai Chen open-shoved from the small blind and Zheng Wang called in the big blind with his short stack of only a couple of big blinds. Zhang held the {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs} while Chen flipped over the inferior {J-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. The rail erupted on the {5-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{J-Spades} flop and neither the {A-Clubs} turn nor {Q-Clubs} river could save Zhang anymore.

All remaining players are now in the money and guaranteed at least HK$43,600.

Chan Eliminated Just Before Break; Remaining 60 On The Bubble

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Justin Pak Kwan Chan
Justin Pak Kwan Chan

The action started with the player in the hijack raising to 7,000. Huidong Gu was in the cut off and bumped it up to 14,000 before the decision fell on Justin Chan on the big blind. He moved all in for his remaining 33,000 which was enough to scare off the original raiser. But not Gu who made the quick call.

Chan: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Gu: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Chan was in great shape to double up until the board ran out {10-Clubs}{a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. Gu had spiked an ace on the flop to take down the pot leaving the tournament with one elimination from the money.

O’Dwyer Doubles

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

With the pot over 25,000 and the flop reading {q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{k-Spades}, both Steve O’Dwyer and Yoshiro Nagata checked the action over to the player on the button. He bet out 9,000 and was called by O’Dwyer before Nagata opted to bump it up to 18,000 in chips. The original raiser thought for a minute before folding his hand then O’Dwyer called.

The {4-Clubs} fell on the turn and O’Dwyer checked. Nagata instantly reached for chips and splashed out a tower of 5,000-denomination chips totalling 70,000. O’Dwyer looked over at the bet before moving all in for 88,000. Nagata wasn't impressed but made the additional call for 18,000 before both players tabled their cards.

O’Dwyer: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Nagata: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

O’Dwyer had turned the nut flush and ended up raking in the pot after the {6-Clubs} completed the board. With that pot O’Dwyer moves up to 229,500 in chips. Nagata drops down to 45,000.

Lee Busts Liang and Gets Some More

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Jia Liang vs Victor Chong
Jia Liang vs Victor Chong

The seat of Jia Liang was vacated and we were about to ask Daniel Lee what happened when the American got value out of turned trips with {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} on a board of {10-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The valuebet of Lee was called and he moved up to 230,000 chips. His recent profit also came off the elimination of Jia Liang as well.

"He shoved 56k from under the gun plus one and I called with nines," the American said. "He had {J-}{9-} off suit".

Over 500k For Fu After Double KO

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
XiaoHua Fu
XiaoHua Fu

We arrived at Table 6 just as a massive pot was about to develop.

On a flop of {9-Hearts}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs} Xiaohua Fu checked his option from under the gun. The player in the hijack then committed his last 9,100 into the pot as the decision fell on Manu Herewini Austin in the cut off. He thought for a moment before raising it up to 35,000. Fu didn't take long to announce all in, an amount close to 300,000 in chips. Austin snap called for over 100,000 in chips and the cards were tabled.

Austin: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Fu: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Austin had flopped bottom set and was in great shape against his two opponents who had a pair each. However, the turn brought the {10-Hearts} sending Fu to the lead with a higher set. The {9-Spades} on the river guaranteed Fu the monster pot, sending him to over 500,000 in chips, after eliminating two players.

In a battle of the blinds, Lester Edoc got his stack of approximately 60,000 chips in preflop with the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} after a raising war with Nicolas Cardyn and the Frenchman snap-called with {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

There was no help on a dry board of {5-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Cardyn is now among the biggest stacks.

Chan Takes Chane

Chane Kampanatsangakorn
Chane Kampanatsangakorn

It must have been a very painful day at the tables for Chane Kampanatsanyakorn and he just shipped in his last 2,600 from under the gun. He received three callers including Wai Leong Chan in the small blind and the {8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop was checked through.

Chan then bet the {10-Spades} turn and the {5-Diamonds} river to get called by the player from one seat over only. Chan turned over his monster hand {8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for a full house while the next player showed his {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Kampanatsanyakorn's {J-Clubs}{5-Clubs} stood no chance and he headed to the rail.
