Final Table Set; Cheng Leads!

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Chip Leader - Yat Wai Cheng
Chip Leader - Yat Wai Cheng

Day 3 of the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Main Event, which originally attracted 493 entries, started with 41 players, but over the course of nine hours was slowly whittled down to the final table of seven.

Of course, what everyone wants to know is who is still in contention for the title. It will be Yat Wai Cheng who will return on Sunday with the chip lead, bagging up an impressive 2,833,000. Cheng played extremely well throughout the day and then stormed to the lead when he won a monster pot against Fan Zhao without even going to showdown.

Close behind are Weiyi Zhang (2,721,000) and Zhenru Xie (1,840,000), making the trio the only players over a million in chips. The final table also consists of one player from Hong Kong (the leader - Cheng), one from the Philippines (the short stack - Florencio Campomanes) and five players from China.

The Day 3 action was quick with 16 players hitting the rail before the first break. None of those eliminations were more surprising then that of ZiaoHua Fu, who started the day as the overwhelming chip leader. What started as a 120 big blind stack, was dwindled down to nothing in an hour and a half.

Firstly, Fu was rivered holding the {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} against Cheng Ho’s {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} when the {k-Clubs} spiked on the river. He then found himself doubling up Nicolas Cardyn holding the same hand when he ran into pocket kings. From then on he kept doubling up the short stacks until he didn't have any chips left to defend.

From then onwards some big names started to bust including Ronald Chun Long Yu (23rd) who ran his {a-}{k-} into Cheng’s pocket kings and couldn't improve. Daniel Lee (22nd), Wending Luo (20th), Dapeng Mu (17th), Cardyn (13th), Alex Lee (11th) and eventual final table bubble boy Cheng Ho (8th) took their leave in due time.

Ho committed himself holding {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and was in great shape against Zhang’s {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, but was out flopped and sent home agonizingly close to making in through to Day 4.

Cheng Ho

In the very next hand after doubling Weijie Ye, Cheng Ho found himself on the edge of elimination.

Weiyi Zhang started things off with a raise to 52,000 from under the gun before the decision fell on Ho on the button. He quickly moved all in for 388,000 as the option came back to Zhang. He thought for a moment before making the call.

Zhang: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Ho: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

Ho was in the lead, but it didn't last long, as the board ran out {q-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts} to see Zhang flop two pair and take down the pot.

Ho finished in 8th place earning himself HKD$262,000 for his efforts. The remaining players will bag up for the night and return tomorrow to play out for the title.

Shen Ming Yin didn't take long to put his tournament at risk. He moved all in for his remaining 643,000 from middle position as the decision folded to Zhenru Xie. He thought for a minute before also announcing all in, for just over one million in chips. The players on the button and blinds got out of the way quickly resulting in some cards getting tabled.

Yin: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}

Xie: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Yin was in trouble with the lower pair and wasn't helped out when the board ran out {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}{k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} to give Xie a full house on the turn and the eventual pot.

Huidong Gu

The action started with Huidong Gu raising to 65,000 from under the gun. Weiyi Zhang then bumped it up to 180,000 from the button which forced a fold from the blinds. Gu made the call before both players watched the flop come down {10-Clubs}{q-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

Gu then instantly moved all in for 550,000 in chips applying the pressure on Zhang. He deliberated for over a minute, before finally making the call.

Gu: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Zhang: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Zhang had made a good call with his jacks in front of Gu’s ace-high. Both then watched as the {7-Spades} then {a-Hearts} completed the board.

Gu had thought he had won when the ace came not realising that it had only improved Zhang’s hand to a straight.

Jun Bao kicked things off with a raise to 60,000 from under the gun and was called by Weiyi Zhang in the cut off. The two then watched the flop come down {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts} before Bao checked his option. Zhang threw out a 85,000 continuation bet which was called before both players opted to check the {2-Clubs} on the turn.

After the river produced the {4-Spades}, Bao instantly moved all in for 387,000 in chips. Zhang asked for a count before thinking about his decision for over a minute. He eventually made the call, which ended up being the right one.

Bao reluctantly rolled over his {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} for ace-high before Zhang slammed his {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} onto the table. The pot sees Zhang move up to 1.2 million in chips.

Quick eliminations in succession means we missed how the action went down that saw Nicolas Cardyn fall in 13th place.

It was relayed back to us that Cardyn committed his chips in pre flop holding {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and was up against Cheng Ho’s {k-}{q-}.

Unfortunately for Cardyn the flop brought a queen and the turn a king to see him fall to two pair sending him to the rail to collect HKD$130,800 for his efforts.
