Dong Kim
Dong Kim

Welcome to PokerNews' Day 2 coverage of the 2015 PokerStars.net APPT Seoul.

After eight levels, the starting field of 241 players to down to just 91 hopefuls following both Day 1 sessions. On Day 1b, online heads up No Limit Hold'em phenom Dong Kim entered, and he survived the day with 82,700 chips. Kim grinded his way up from the lowest stakes and now belongs in an elite category of heads-up specialists that including Dan Cates, Doug Polk and Team PokerStars Pro Online Ike Haxton, but a big tournament score is still lacking from on his poker resume. Kim has expressed his desire to do well in tournaments, and coming into today we like his chances.

On top of the chip counts is Takihiro Nakai with 186,700, well out in front of his nearest competitor. Rounding out the top seven (and the only seven players with six-figure stacks) are Hajime Iwakura (153,900), Hirotoshi Nakabo (135,200), Day 1a end-of-day chip leader Alex Ward (133,800), Masato Yokosawa (106,100), Tyler Jennens and Yunye Lu (101,100) who is currently sitting in second place in the race for the Asia Player of the Year title.

Notables still in the field include PokerStars Team Pros Bryan Huang (79,900), Aditya Agarwal (34,500) and Celina Lin (33,400), the past two APPT Seoul champions Chane Kampanatsanyakorn (17,100) and Aaron Lim (62,200), Australian regulars Toan Nguyen (91,200), Minh Nguyen (49,100) and Jesse McKenzie (37,600) as well as a contingent of female pros including Yu Kurita (57,500), Juicy Li (41,600) and Kitty Kuo (27,400).

Play is set to resume at noon local time, about an hour from now, and we will play twelve more levels today. Be sure to keep it here at PokerNews throughout the day for updates on all of the action.

Kitty Kuo on Day 1a
Kitty Kuo on Day 1a

We picked up the action on the turn when the board showed {J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Kitty Kuo checked to Tyler Jennens. Jennens bet 6,500 and Kuo proceeded to check-raise all in for 21,600.

Jennens snap-called.

Kuo: {Q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Jennens: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}

Jennens was behind, but another jack or board pair would give him the pot against Kuo's straight. The river however was the {4-Spades} and Kuo received a full double up.

Park Cracks Aces

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

The action started with Jian Yang raising to 2,600 from under the gun. Jason Park made the call from middle position as did the player to his left. Bernard Geoum then bumped it up to 7,600 from the cut off only to be met with another raise to 24,000 from Tsuyoshi Ishibashi on the big blind.

Yang didn't stick around, mucking his hand instantly. Park then thought about his decision for a minute before moving all in for over 80,000 in chips. The action folded back around to Ishibashi who snap called before both players tabled their cards.

Ishibashi: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}
Park: {K-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Park had Ishibashi covered but was behind with his pair of kings. That was until the dealer spread out the {9-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} board to see him spike a set on the flop and take down the pot.

Park moves up to 170,000 in chips following the hand.

Park was seated on the button and had 3,700 invested into the pot already, and ultimately he made the call. The small blind, who had also committed 3,700 to the pot, folded and the showdown was heads up.

Otsuka: {A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Park: {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

The board ran out {7-Spades}{3-Spades}{Q-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Otsuka doubled his stack up.
