ACOP Day 4, Title and Top Spot in APOY on the Line

PokerStars Team Online Pro Mikhail Shalamov
PokerStars Team Online Pro Mikhail Shalamov

Today is Day 4 of the Asia Championship of Poker Main Event. Twenty seven players made the money, but the 23 remaining players are now focused on something bigger; a title.

Mikhail Shalamov, is the last surviving member of the PokerStars Pro team and will have to make some early moves starting the day with only 100,000.

Connor Drinan (861,000) leads the field coming into the day. This event is Drinan’s 20th cash of the calendar year. He’s had multiple top 10 finishes, with his biggest score coming in the Super High-Roller Bowl in July. Drinan finished 3rd for a little more than $3.2-million.

Three players in the top 20 of the Asia Player of the Year rankings remain in the field as well. Yat Wai Cheng (835,000) won the last APPT Macau Main Event and is 19th in the rankings. He got started on Day 1a when he got his kings in against the queens of Stephen Chidwick and took a large chunk of Chidwick’s stack.

Ka Cheong Wong (169,000), will almost certainly overtake the number 1 spot on the APOY leaderboard in whatever spot he finishes. He is currently second and only 20 points off the lead. He has been spending a majority of the tournament in the middle of the pack, but made moves when he had to and is still alive and looking to stay ahead of the pack in the APOY ranks.

Yuguang Li (249,000), who finished as the Day 2 chip leader, is 4th in the APOY ranks. It certainly looks like it’s going to be an interesting race with the last point-eligible event, the ACOP Super High-Roller beginning today. Pokernews will be bringing you some updates on the Super High-Roller throughout the day and full coverage for the final table Sunday.

The ACOP Main Event will continue today until there are only six players left. The remaining six will come back tomorrow for the final table and a shot at the 2015 ACOP Main Event title. Stay tuned to Pokernews.com for complete Main Event coverage.
