Who they're all chasing! Day 1a chip leader, Bo "Box" Xie

Welcome back to PokerNews' coverage of the 2014 PokerStars.net APPT Macau Main Event. Yesterday's Day 1a field saw 212 players come out to play. At the end of the day, 87 of them advanced to Day 2. It was Bo “Box” Xie who would take the lead in the final few hands of the night, finishing with 166,000 in chips.

With an expected field of around 300 players today, it would mean that this event will have in excess of 500-runners, a great result for this event which has been growing in popularity ever since it's inclusion in 2007.

Some players to look forward to today include Team PokerStars Pros Celina Lin and Raymond Wu, as well as possible showings from 2014 APPT Seoul champion Chane Kampanatsanyakorn, 2013 APPT Cebu champion Jae Kyung Sim and reigning APPT Macau champion Alexandre Chieng.

Play is set to kick off at 3:00pm local time here at the City of Dreams Macau. Be sure to stay tuned for all the live coverage straight from the floor, it's going to be another great day on the felt.

After a few announcements from the tournament director and an introduction of last year's champion, Alexandre Chieng, Chieng gave the obligatory "shuffle up and deal" and the cards were in the air.

We arrived at the table with 18,000 chips in the pot, and the board reading {6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

J.J. Liu was sitting motionless, after just committing her remaining 10,000 chips into the pot. Her opponent in the hand tanked for over a minute, before finally releasing his hand and relinquishing the pot to Liu.

A great start for Liu, who sits on 28,000 in chips.

Lin Wins One Early

Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin

The hand started with the player in middle position limping into the pot, before Celina Lin bumped it up to 300 from his immediate left. The player on the button also made the call, and the three watched the flop come down {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}.

The first player bet out 500, which only Lin called. The {j-Clubs} on the turn didn't interest ether player as both checked, before the {2-Hearts} completed the board.

Another bet of 775 came from the player in middle position which was called a moment later by Lin. The player rolled over {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} but was beaten by Lin who showed her {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for a higher two-pair.
