As players are rapidly busting out of the Main Event, we now have a few free tables in the Crown Poker Room for the commencement of Event #11 of the 2009 Aussie Millions Championship.
It's time for the $1,100 Pot-Limit Omaha event, and with PLO growing in popularity in recent years and a budget buy-in we should get a nice turnout. However there are only about nine spare tables in the room at the moment, which indicates that there may be a cap put on the size of the field at around the 90-player mark.
The action kicks off at 4:30 p.m. which is in about 15 minutes' time. As this is a one-day event, we could be in for a long evening ahead. Stay tuned to PokerNews for all of the PLO excitement!
There are roughly 12 tables currently in action, although there are a few dead stacks amongst the field for late registrations.
Three additional tables were added in the high-limit section of the room and they've attracted some very tough table draws.
Ali Khalil, Manny Rodrigues, George Cotaidis, Lee Nelson, and Roy Bhasin have all found themselves on the same table.
While it doesn't get any easier next door as Sean Dunwoodie, Julian Powell, Mitchell Carle, Josh Field, Tim Marsters, and Craig Bergeron won't have too many easy pots on their table.
Sam Youssef was also overheard to convey his displeasure as drawing the same table as Michael "Sticky" Guttman and David Morton.
Today's format is referred to as a "second chance format" and sees each player start with 3,000 in chips. They then have the option to use a second bank of 3,000 chips at any time during the first three levels, regardless of the size of their chip stacks.
It allows the players the flexibility to start with a double stack of 6,000 or alternatively play aggressive early in the knowledge that they have a second chance up their sleeve if they bust out before the end of Level Three.
Two players who have already taken advantage of their "second chance" are Danny Mountt and Martin Harvey.
They were both all in against Bjorn van Bavel on a flop of and the three players tabled their cards:
Mountt:
Harvey:
Van Bavel:
Three strong hands went to war however the on the turn gave van Bavel the straight and he maintained that lead with the on the river. Van Bavel is up to 8,000 as Martin and Mountt both requested more chips from the dealer.
Michael "Sticky" Guttman is another to take advantage of a second chance. In a raised pot, he moved all in on a flop of only to run into Dave Callaghan holding for a full house. Guttman had complete air with his .
The turn was the and river the and Guttman reaches for his second 3,000 chip stack as Callaghan raked in the pot to move up to 13,000 chips.
