Obrestad Runs Good

Annette Obrestad is catching all the right cards today. She wound up putting a player all in before the flop. Obrestad had {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds} and was up against {A-Clubs} {A-Spades}. It was no problem for her to find a matching king on a flop of {9-Spades} {7-Spades} {K-Hearts}. The board safely ran out {Q-Spades} {J-Clubs} after that, giving Obrestad the chips and the win. She's up to 145,000.

Is it Christmas?
Is it Christmas?
Mel Judah opened with a raise to 3,000 from the button before Steve Sung popped it up to 11,100 from the small blind. The big blind folded before Judah moved all in for his last 23,600. Sung sighed and calculated some pot odds before decided he was committed to call.

Judah: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Sung: {2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

It was a case of the best hand in the game versus nearly the worst hand possible. It could've been the cruelest of bad beats to Judah but it wasn't to be as the board fell {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{J-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Spades} and Judah receives a generous double-up to 52,000. Sung is back to 42,000.

"My House is Bigger Than Yours"

Joshua Malone is the current chip leader, and he just extended his lead at the expense of Michael Guzzardi. Guzzardi and Malone were at the river on a board of {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {7-Hearts}. 9,000 chips had already made their way into the pot. Guzzardi was first to act and opted to lead out for 5,400. Malone raised him to 25,000 and Guzzardi called with {A-Spades} {J-Clubs}. He might have thought the pot was going to be split -- that Malone would turn over an ace of his own for matching sevens full of aces -- but Malone had flopped middle set with {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades} and had a bigger full house, eights full of sevens.

Guzzardi is down to 40,000. Malone is currently leading the tournament with approximately 230,000.

Capra's Aces Too Good for Veenhuyzen's Kings

Sam Capra has risen from one of the shorter stacks at the start of the day to now sit with a very healthy 160,000 chips. He accumulated most of them in a recent clash with Perth's favorite son, Max Veenhuyzen.

Capra raised preflop to 3,500 before Veenhuyzen popped it up to 8,500 from the cutoff. Capra then put in another raise, making it 28,500 with Veenhuyzen making the call in position.

The flop came down {5-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Capra moved all in for 56,000 sending Veenhuyzen into the tank. He eventually found a call with {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} but he'd run into Capra's {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} and river the {7-Hearts} and Capra doubled through to leave Veenhuyzen with only 50,000 as he grumbled, "Geez I dislike poker!"

Casale Survives All-In

Antonio Casale was all in with the worst of it. He butted heads with Andrew Jeffreys, tabling pocket queens against the pocket kings of Jeffreys. The picture card that hit the flop was a queen, giving Casale the best of it. His edge held through the river. That hand propelled Casale to 75,000 chips. He moved to 115,000 shortly thereafter.

Jeffreys is down to 40,000.

Madsen Doubles on River

Jeff Madsen is lucky to still be alive in this tournament. He was all in preflop with {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} against an opponent with {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. Madsen had his tournament life on the line as the flop left him with one foot out the door when it arrived {9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{A-Hearts} to pair up his opponent.

The turn was the {2-Spades} but the {J-Clubs} on the river was the savior as Madsen doubles to 45,000 chips.

All We Can Say is... Oops! (Part 2)

Loud expletives from the high-limit side of the room brought our reporter quickly over to Aleks Lackovic's table. He had tanked for ages on a board of {3-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {7-Hearts} after betting and watching Rajkumar Ramakrishnan check-raise all in for more than 80,000. Lackovic finally made the correct decision and called with his {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}. Ramakrishnan was on a stone bluff with {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}, but got bailed out by the board when it came running aces, {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}. Lackovic was visibly steamed, although he remains in the tournament with 40,000 chips. Ramakrishnan is now among the leaders with 175,000.
