Grab Your Drug of Choice -- It's Day 2

Cards will be in the air shortly.
Cards will be in the air shortly.
320 players have survived the Day 1 flights. That's a bit less than half of the combined starting field. They will all take to the felt in about 20 minutes for what promises to be a furious (and long) day of action.

Every table is stocked with talent at this point in the tournament. We have especially noticed Table 11 as being a tough draw. It features Steve Topakas, Mark Phillips and two of the biggest stacks in the field, John Paul Kelly and Luis Pampliega.

We're playing five levels today, because the levels have switched from the 90-minute levels of Day 1 to 120 minutes. They will remain that length for the duration of the tournament.

Suck down a coffee. It's going to be a great day of action at the Crown Poker Room. We'll be here for every minute of it.

Level: 7

Blinds: 400/800

Ante: 100

Shuffle Up and Deal!

The cards are in the air with the entire Crown Poker Room full with Day 2 hopefuls. A hush has now developed over the room as the players get straight into action.

Double Up Or Die Trying

Mark Vos - A desperate morning
Mark Vos - A desperate morning
There are several severe short stacks in the field including notables Eric Assadourian, Steve Leonard, Kenneth Damm, Angie Italiano, Dory Zayneh and Mark Vos.

Expect them to adopt an early "double up or die trying" attitude as the chips will be flying around. As the day develops, the two hour levels should ensure that play moves at a relatively smooth pace throughout the day.

How Far Until the Money?

It's always fun trying to predict the pace of tournaments, but we can make a somewhat educated guess as to when the players will reach the money stage of this tournament.

We're playing five two-hour levels today, which will probably see us lose around half of today's players. They will return for Day 3 tomorrow and we imagine we'll be close to the final 64 players, and the money, at around dinner time tomorrow.

There's still a long way to go in this one!

Schwartz Starts Well

Noah Schwartz, during Day 1 action
Noah Schwartz, during Day 1 action
Noah Schwartz was one of our overnight chip leaders and he's off to a bright start already today.

Holding {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} he was able to force a short-stacked player to compete for all of his chips on a {9-Spades}{A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop. His opponent tabled {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and was in trouble as the turn and river fell {Q-Spades}, {K-Clubs}.

Schwartz sends one to the rail and increases his stack to around 150,000 chips.

Obrestad Does It Again

Annette Obrestad - Day 2
Annette Obrestad - Day 2
Annette Obrestad started her Day 1 with an early double-up from 20,000 to 40,000. She then floated at that same level for the rest of the day, finishing with roughly 45,000 chips.

Obrestad started her Day 2 in the same fashion. She won two early hands. First, she moved all in on the turn with the board showing {3-Hearts} {7-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {2-Spades} after her opponent led out for 3,500. Her opponent called all in for roughly 24,000 total and showed {7-Diamonds} {9-Spades} for middle pair. Obrestad showed {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} for top pair and took down the hand when the river safely blanked {K-Diamonds}.

The next hand, Obrestad was all in on the turn again. This time the board showed {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} {9-Clubs} {7-Clubs} and Obrestad tabled a significantly stronger hand: {J-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} for a straight. Her opponent was on a club draw with the {K-Clubs} and missed the river when it fell {5-Diamonds}.

Obrestad is up to 110,000 in chips. What a great way to start the day!

Assadourian Stays Alive

Eric Assadourian, during Day 1 action
Eric Assadourian, during Day 1 action
Eric Assadourian was one short stack who has managed to find the much needed double-up required to stay alive in the Aussie Millions Main Event.

Assadourian was all in preflop with {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and things looked grim as his opponent revealed {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}. However the flop was a magical {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for the flopped straight!

The turn was the {Q-Clubs} and river the {2-Spades} and Assadourian now has a pulse once again with around 12,000 in chips.
