Birman Doubles Up

Paul Birman has just managed to score a double up through to move back up to 19,000 in chips.

The money was all in the middle preflop; Birman tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and found himself well ahead of his opponent's {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}.

The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{6-Spades}{q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, crippling the opponent and keeping Birman above water.

Tabatabai Scores Double KO

Tabatabai (during Event 16): says bai-bai to two players
Tabatabai (during Event 16): says bai-bai to two players
John Tabatabai has crushed two opponents to send his stack up to 20,000 in chips.

Tabatabai moved his short stack into the middle preflop with {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} and found himself ahead of one opponent's {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

However both were behind another's {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}.

That is, until the dealer spread the board of {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}.

Two pocket pairs cracked, two players eliminated and Tabatabai is still alive.

Sayonara Segal

Segal: ultimate showdowns of ultimate destiny
Segal: ultimate showdowns of ultimate destiny
Fresh off his Event 17 victory, Mark Segal has just been sent to the rail in amazing fashion.

Segal recalled to us that before his elimination, he had witnessed three classic "aces-versus-kings" showdowns and a "kings-versus-queens" showdown, with the better pair winning each time.

Which leads us to Segal's elimination - Segal moved all in with {k-?}{k-?}, only to run into ... yep, you guessed it ... pocket rockets!

Wicks on Fire

Geordie Wicks has rocketed to the top of the counts and has become the first player to crack the 50k mark (and then some).

Wicks and his opponent got their money in the middle preflop and we got there as the cards were revealed:

Wicks: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The board was spread {7-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades}, sending the opponent packing and Wicks' stack up to a whopping 65,000!

Guiliano Charges

Guiliano: on the march!
Guiliano: on the march!
An opponent in middle position raised to 2,700 before the flop and the action folded around to Jason Guiliano who called from the big blind.

Both players checked the flop of {5-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, then Guiliano led out for 2,000 on the turn of the {2-Spades}.

The opponent went all in for 2,700 and Guilliano made the call.

Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Guiliano: {k-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Guiliano had caught his opponent out by hitting bottom two pair, which held up when the {6-Clubs} bricked on the river.

Another one bites the dust and Guiliano is up to 36,000 in chips.

Rodrigues Doubles Up

Manny Rodrigues has just managed to score a timely double up as we approach the next break.

Rodrigues got his money all in preflop with {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} but found himself behind an opponent's {a-?}{k-?}.

The flop of {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{j-Hearts} was of no help to either player, but Rodrigues caught a glimmer of hope with the straight draw.

And yea, the poker gods did smile upon the blessed Rodrigues, delivering thy {10-Clubs} on the river to multiply him to 11,000.
