Steicke Sorts Out Sortino

In a hand just before the break, Paolo Sortino got the last of his money in the middle on the turn with the board reading {8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{k-Spades} holding {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, but found himself dominated by David Steicke's {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}.

The {7-Spades} bricked on the river to seal the deal for Steicke and we say sayonara to Sortino.

Steicke is up to 67,000.

Game On

The players have returned from what we're guessing might be their last break of the day. Just a friendly reminder that we'll be playing down to nine and pausing the tournament until tomorrow afternoon, at which time our nine finalists will return to play down to one winner.

Jack It Up

Josh Wilson is up to 43,000 in chips after a recent battle with Jan Suchanek.

Action folded around to Suchanek in the hijack position and he opened with a raise. Wilson made the call from the cutoff and the two went heads-up to an {8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop. Suchanek then checked, Wilson bet and Suchanek called.

The turn brought the {10-Hearts} and the action remained the same -- check, bet, call.

The {10-Diamonds} fell on the river and once more, the action went check, bet, call.

At the showdown, Wilson tabled a pocket pair of jacks for two pair and Suchanek mucked his hand, dropping back down to 51,000.

Zhao Snatches from Sachinidis

David Zhao raised under the gun and action folded around to Jim Sachinidis who made the call from the big blind.

Sachinidis check-called Zhao on the flop of {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}, then check-mucked after Zhao opened on the turn of the {K-Hearts}.

Zhao moves up to 45,000 while Sachinidis is down to 23,000.

Suchanek Strikes

The action folded around to Jim Sachinidis who raised from the button before David Zhao called from the small blind and Jan Suchanek called from the big blind.

Zhao and Suchanek checked the flop of {9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{q-Clubs} to Sachinidis who led out for 1,200. Zhao check-raised, Suchanek called and Sachinidis folded, leaving the other two to the turn of the {5-Clubs}.

Zhao check-folded after Suchanenk led out. "Have you been making moves?" Sachinidis asked Zhao.

One can only wonder, but Zhao is still in this tournament with 41,000 in chips. Suchanek is up to 57,000.

Stead Slips Up Against Sheth

Amit Sheth: full steam ahead!
Amit Sheth: full steam ahead!
Kerry Stead raised preflop from early position and the action folded around to Amit Sheth who reraised from the small blind.

Stead called and they saw a flop of {8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{q-Clubs}; Sheth led out and Stead called, then both players checked the turn of the {j-Clubs}.

On the river {9-Spades}, Sheth led out again and Stead went deep into the tank before eventually making the call, only to muck when Sheth rolled up {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the flush.

Sheth is up to 52,000 in chips while Stead is down to just 19,000.

Oopsy Daisy

Kerry Stead has dropped to 9,000 in chips after an attempted bluff in a hand against Simon Morris went awry.

We caught up to the hand on the flop with the board showing {K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Morris bet and Stead called.

When the {8-Hearts} fell on the turn, Stead got fancy and check-raised a bet from Morris, who stayed right along with Stead.

The river brought the {8-Diamonds} and Morris passed the final option to Stead who took one last stab at the pot. Morris looked him up and Stead tabled {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for complete air.

Morris showed the {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} to claim the pot, improving to 40,000 in chips in the process.

Dix Chips Up

Michael Dix: likes chips
Michael Dix: likes chips
Steve Krmpotic, Michael Dix and Rob Crifo all called Dean Blatt's preflop raise to go four ways into a flop of {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, which they all checked.

On the turn of the {5-Hearts}, Blatt and Krmpotic checked before Dix opened for 2,400. Crifo folded, Blatt called and Krmpotic mucked before the dealer revealed the {7-Diamonds} on the river.

Blatt check-called Dix's bet, but threw his hand away when Dix showed {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} for the full house. Dix is up to 33,000 while Blatt is reduced to 13,000 in chips.
