Gutshot Mania

Tony G made a grand entrance this morning, now he's looking to make some grander plays
Tony G made a grand entrance this morning, now he's looking to make some grander plays
Tony G opened to 525 from under-the-gun with the player on the button making it 2,000 to go. The G made the call and the flop came {4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.

Both players checked off the flop. The {k-Hearts} hit the turn and Tony G check-raised to 4,000 over a bet of 1,800 from his opponent. The opponent called and both players checked off the river {3-Hearts}.

Tony G turned over {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a gutshot straight draw, and his opponent turned over {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a double gut shot and the pair with an ace high kicker to take it down.

Tony G drops to 35,000.

Hash-tastic

Joe Hachem has been wavering between 22,000 and 27,000 for much of the first couple of levels. Here's a recent pot that brought him back up to 21,200 in chips:

Hachem opened with a raise to 600 and received calls from both players in the blinds. The flop came {9-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs} and action was checked around to Hachem who fired an 800 continuation bet. The big blind was the only caller and he and Hachem went heads-up to the turn -- {5-Spades}.

On 4th Street, the big blind checked, Hachem bet 1,600 and the big blind called.

The last card off the deck was the {Q-Hearts} and the big blind led out with a 2,800 bet. Hachem made the call and his opponent turned over {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for two pair, nines and sixes. Hachem then tabled his own hand -- {9-Spades}{10-Clubs} -- good for trips and the win.

More Marvanek

Preflop, a player in middle position opened to 600 chips and the hijack made the call. Michael Marvanek popped it up to 2,100 from the the button and action folded back to the middle position opponent.

He took his time and counted off Marvanek's stack before firing out 6,600, which would be enough to set Marvanek all in. After tanking the hijack folded and Marvanek quickly called.

Marvanek: {A-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{4-Spades}, offering nothing in the way of a sweat.

Marvanek has some new life at 15,000.

No More Moorman

Chris Moorman has recieved an early mark from the Aussie Millions Main Event.

After struggling earlier, it's doubtful that Moorman's stack ever went over the 20,000 that he started with.

He was balanced after running {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} into an opponent with {k-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. The {Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop would be enough to see him gathering his things together. The {A-Hearts} and {4-Spades} turn and river, were not enough to get him a redraw for his tournament life.

Revenge is Oh So Sweet for Big Show

The sweet taste of revenge...
The sweet taste of revenge...
Todor Kondevski opened the action to 600 before Steve Topakas popped it up to 2,200 on the button. Play folded back to Kondevski who put in a four-bet to 7,000 to send "The Big Show" into the tank. After several minutes of thought he splashed a chunk of yellow 5,000-denomination chips into the middle to put Kondevski all in and he immediately made the call.

Kondevski: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Topakas: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}

It was a rematch between these two players who went heads in the Melbourne Poker Championships Main Event last year. That day it was Kondevski who was victorious over Topakas to claim the title, but today Topakas was able to extract a small element of revenge as the board was spread {5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades}.

Kondevski hit the rail as Topakas elevated himself to 60,000 chips.

Obst Takes a Savage Beating; Busts from Main Event

James Obst
James Obst
James Obst has just been eliminated from the main event by Ben Savage. Here's how the hand went down, according to Savage:

Obst opened the pot with a raise to 400 and when the action found its way around to Savage, he kicked it up to 1,250. Obst made the call and the two saw the flop come {9-?}{J-?}{4-?}. Obst checked, Savage bet 1,700 and Obst called.

A queen fell on the turn and both players checked, sending the action to the river, where another queen hit the board.

Obst then led out with a 2,600 bet and Savage raised to 6,000. Obst then moved all in and Savage made the call holding {Q-?}{J-?} for queens full. Obst mucked his cards without showing, and Savage raked in the pot.
