With 270 players competing in the third flight, the total field came to 746. This represents an increase of 65 players, and comes just one player short of the 2007 event. The record remains the 2008 event which was 780 players.
In all it looks like the players and poker room have done a great job in supporting the event.
Some big names came to the felt today including the Brothers Hachem (Joe and Tony), as well as Tony G, Mark Vos, Chris "Moorman1" Moorman, Clonie Gowen, Josh "JJ Prodigy" Field, Andrew "Adgee" Jeffreys, Jan Suchanek, and Rayan Nathan.
At the end of seven levels Pierre Aoukar would be the flight chip leader at 178,500. Some of the notables survived too - Steve Topakas (94,000), Tony G (86,000), and Mark Vos (35,000) will all be progressing to day two, amongst a host of other players.
With that the business end of the tournament begins tomorrow, with approximately 300 players returning as the long trek to the champion continues.

Tony Bloom on the other hand has busted. He and an opponent got it all in while the rest of the table was bagging their chips. Bloom had aces, and his opponent jacks. Bloom was in good shape to double before a jack hit on the river.
Preflop, Aoukar opened to 3,500 with Caris making the call from the small blind.

. When it was Gill's turn, he showed .The turn brought a deuce and the river a seven and Gill would see his stack drop while Dalessandri raked in the chips.

, Spindler opened with a 2,400 bet and his opponent moved all in for 15,400. Spindler tanked and eventually called, only to see his opponent turn over the aces. Failing to spike a third eight on the turn or river, Spindler surrendered the hand.
I'm sure the $2,000,000 AUD first prize will certainly help wake them all up in the morning.
Savage limped into the pot from the button, Jessica Dawley completed from the small blind and Kinsey checked his option in the big.

and the action was checked to Savage who attempted to take the pot right then and there with an 800 bet. Dawley quickly folded but Kinsey, holding , floated, opting to see the turn -- .Kinsey then bet 800 on the strength of his top pair and Savage made the call. Kinsey wound up with trips after the river dropped the
on the board and he fired a 1,000 value bet. Savage made the call and mucked after Kinsey showed his three queens, leaving himself with 27,000 in chips.
