Event #3: Pot-Limit Omaha
Day 1 Started
The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is back down in the Crown Casino Poker Room once again to bring you live coverage of the third tournament of the 2011 Aussie Millions schedule – the $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha event.
We've already had a champion crowned – just over four hours ago, Australia's Martin Drewe outlasted a field of 1,000 entrants to pick up a smidge over AUD$200,000 and the first gold ring of the series after his victory in the $1,100 Opening Event. Now, it's time to get some PLO going and this event should be a pearler, particularly when this year's champion will be on the honor roll below Annette Obrestad.
The 2007 WSOP Europe Main Event champion is expected to take her seat in today's event to defend her crown, and a little birdie tells us that Full Tilt Red Pro James Akenhead 2010 Aussie Millions winner Tyron Krost are also amongst the those who will be playing today.
The action will be getting underway in about 45 minutes time, so be sure to keep your browser locked onto PokerNews for all the updates. See you soon!
The order to shuffle up and deal has been given and 2011 Aussie Millions $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha event is underway!

Pot Limit Omaha events may feature small fields, but there's certainly no lack of quality players and we've got dozens of poker's creme de la creme here today.
2011 Aussie Millions $1,100 PLO champion Annette Obrestad is here today, as well as Full Tilt Red Pro James Akenhead and the Hendon Mob's Barny Boatman. We've also been advised that former child chess prodigy-turned-poker player Jeff Sarwer is also here today - it will be interesting to see how he copes in the Aussie conditions, given that he has only featured mostly in EPT events in the last few years.
However, the Aussies are out in force today - defending Aussie Millions Main Event champion Tyron Krost is here and he's on a table which we'll certainly be keeping close tabs on - he's squashed up with Sean Dunwoodie, 2010 ANZPT Perth runner-up Nik Lackovic and the affable Oliver Gill.
We also welcome back Eric Assadourian, who is looking refreshed after a long break from poker, as well as 2007 APPT Sydney champion Grant Levy, who's on the feature table. The other Aussies in today's field include Australian Poker Hall of Famer Mel Judah, Jackie Glazier, Billy Seri, Con Angelakis, Raj Ramakrishnan and New Zealand poker stalwart Graeme "Kiwi G" Putt.
Our PokerNews field reporter caused our jaws to drop in media row when he delivered the news that Annette Obrestad was the first player eliminated from this event!
Sure enough, a quick glance up from our laptop confirmed it as we saw Obrestad walking towards the exits. As we discovered, it was one Jimmy Wong who was the man responsible for sending the defending champion to the rail.
The money was all in the middle before the flop; Wong and Obrestad had already used their second-chance cards earlier in the tournament and Obrestad had tabled but was in a world of pain against the of Wong.
Despite hitting a Broadway draw on the flop of , Wong improved to two pair when a repeat hit on the turn before an blanked out on the river. Wong is now up to 18,000 in chips.
We should take time to mention that the 2011 Aussie Millions $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha event features a double-chance format. Each player starts with 5,000 in chips but they are also given a "second chance" card, which entitles them to an additional 5,000 in chips during the first three levels at any time, regardless of their chip stack.

As is the norm in major poker events, there are usually a few stragglers that rock up late, and amongst those to have recently taken their seats include Aussies Jamie Pickering and Jim Sachinidis, as well as Full Tilt Red Pros Billy "The Croc" Arygros and Van "Sirens" Marcus.
2004 Aussie Millions Main Event champion Tony "The Lizard" Bloom is also here, but Graeme "Kiwi G" Putt may not be here much longer after being crippled at the hands of Tim Marsters.
The money was all in the middle on the flop and Putt reavealed against Marsters' . Marsters improved to a full house by the river and left Putt with just 5,000 in chips.
Sean Dunwoodie is also struggling, sitting on just over 9,000 in chips and already has used his second-chance card, but he's just taken out an opponent when his dominated his opponent's after the board was spread to give him a full house.

The list of notable notables in this year's $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha event continues to grow, with Aussies Warwick Mirzikinian, John Caridad, Vesko Zmukic, Bruno Portaro and Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson having just joined the field.
The eliminations are also popping up just as quickly, with Jamie Pickering and South Africa's Jarred Solomon both recently taking their leave. Pickering was shafted at the hands of Grant Levy after they got their money into the middle on a flop of ; Pickering was ahead with his but Levy managed to jag two pair with his after the turn and river ran out , .
A short time later, Solomon (who was the 2009 Aussie Millions $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. champion), was busted at the hands of Peter Karam when he moved all in on a flop of with but lost against Karam's . Karam hit his pair on the turn of the and despite having outs to the straight, the river gave Karam the nut flush and Solomon his marching orders.
