The Crown's Aussie Millions Poker Championship is celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year, and we thought it might be fun to take a look back at year's past throughout the Main Event, starting with the year when it all began . . . 2003.
While the numbers were small, at least compared to today's standard, there were some familiar names in action who still compete today including Leo Boxell, Mel Judah, and Harry Demetriou, just to name a few.
We caught the action on the flop, but afterwards Jackie Glazier told us what happened pre. After a raise and a re-raise she decided to four-bet from the big blind and got only the three-better to call.
The flop came down and Glazier bet out 2,550. Her opponent gave it some thought and ended up making the call. The turn was the and Glazier bet 5,500. This time her opponent took about twice as much time before calling once again.
On the river the hit and Glazier wasted not time throwing out 8,000. Once again her opponent took some quiet some time before finally folding. He's left behind with 10,500 while Glazier is sitting pretty with 38,000.
Annette Obrestad is well known for her aggressive style. She made a raise to 200 from the cut-off and was called by the button and small blind before the big blind three-bet to 700. The Norwegian was put in her place and folded.
Sam Capra is playing today, a little more than 12 hours after he won $50,000 AUD for his third place finish in yesterday's Bounties final table. Play the rush!
Jonathan Karamalikis won over $88k for his second place finish in the re-buy tournament but busted out of the $100,000 Challaenge yesterday, so I guess you could say that he's chasing his losses here today.
British Bracelet winners James Dempsey and JP Kelly are in the house.
We're just over halfway done with the first level and Tom Koral is off to a great start. In a recent hand, there was about 2,200 in the pot and a board reading when Koral checked to his opponent in the cutoff. The later bet 1,300 and after some brief debate, most likely on whether to raise or not, Koral made the call.
The cutoff confidently turned over , but it was no good against the of Koral, who is now up to 45,000.
We got our hands on a player list and found Grant Levy. We didn't catch him on our first round but he's definitely playing today. Levy is one of the biggest winners from Australia and interesting enough he has only three cashes outside his home country.
Levy's biggest win came in 2007 when he took down the APPT Sydney Main Event for A$1,000,000 and in total he has won over $1,5 million in live tournaments. He will be sitting in the seat Rupert Elder had yesterday, and if it's a sign Levy will have some big swings today!
JP Kelly was sat still, in thought, as he pondered calling a 2,000 bet from Ralph Burd on the river. Kelly started the hand with a raise to 300 from early and was called by a player in the next seat as well as Burd in the small blind.
The flop fell and Burd donk-led for 300. Kelly was the only caller to the turn where he bet 1,400 when Burd checked to him. Burd called and then led for 2,000 on the river.
Burd's line seem to confuse Kelly, so he took his time before calling with king-jack. Burd tabled the same hand and and they chopped it up.
