Nate Silver, the creator of the FiveThirtyEight blog and author of The Signal and the Noise, got off to a quick start here in the Main Event, jumping up to 40,000, but now he's been knocked down to the starting stack.
We caught the action on the turn with 20,000 in the pot and a board reading . Silver's opponent checked from middle position, and then Silver did the same on the button. The action repeated itself on the river, and Silver tabled . Unfortunately for him, it was no good as the middle-position player held .

Lynn Gilmartin introduces the last of the Day 1 flights for the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event.
Every time there's a big event going on Down Under there is a post dedicated to Joe Hachem. Of course this is without question, because looking at his list of results will make almost everyone jealous.
Hachem put Australia on the poker map back in 2005 when he won the WSOP Main Event, and added a WPT Championship title to his resume just one year later. In total Hachem has $11,786,129 in live tournament earnings and that makes him the biggest winner from Australia.
The Australian Poker Hall of Fame member is seated at a table with Eric Liu and so far he seems to take it easy.

With 1,300 in the pot and a flop of , a player in the big blind bet 900 only to have Jesse Sylvia, who finished runner-up in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event for $5,295,149 back in October, raise to 3,100 from the hijack. A called was made, the dealer burned and turned the , and the big blind came out firing 4,300. Sylvia took his time before raising to 9,200, and it proved enough to get the job done as the big blind conceded the hand.

Dan Shak has his laptop setup on a chair right next to him. Numbers are changing constantly, lights are flashing and every now and then he looks over at the screen that looks like an excel sheet from the year 2450.
So Shak is doing some work, but he's also busy raking in chips in the third level of the day. The board just read and Shak bet 10,000 after his opponent had checked. Shak was called, and both players checked when the hit the river.
Shak showed and his opponent shrugged while flashing the .
"It's the only hand you could beat," Shak's opponent said. Shak agreed and named all the other big pairs that would've made either sets or would've been bigger.

[Removed:163] and an opponent were heads up on a board of . Sheikh's opponent fired 3,600, and Sheikh made the call.
The turn was the , and the player led out again. This time, he tossed out two navy blue T5,000. We believe that he said "seven-thousand," but we're not entirely certain. Regardless of the amount, Sheikh folded, and the player turned over two queens.
