Mercier Enters; Greenwood Gone

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Sam Greenwood and Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier are two of the six players remaining in the 2016 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge. That event is on hiatus until Saturday (so the players can join this event), and both Greenwood and Mercier have opted to play Day 1c.

Unfortunately for Greenwood, who lost a big pot to Mehrdad Razmi last level, his experience was short and not sweet as he has already been eliminated from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Mercier waited until just now to jump into action. That's one way to outlast the competition.

Newey Not Long for this Tournament

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

We missed the elimination of UK businessman and poker high roller Paul Newey, but WSOP bracelet winner Michael Wang, who was the man to eliminate him, shared some details.

According to him, there was a three-bet pot that led to a {q-}{8-}{4-} flop. Newey, who only had 6,000 or so, got his stack all in holding {5-}{4-} but found himself way behind the pocket tens of Wang. Neither the turn nor river helped Newey, and his 2016 Aussie Millions Main Event run came to a quick end.

Newey's seat was soon occupied by Steve O'Dwyer.

One for Rossiter

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Jeff Rossiter raised to 500 from middle position and Van Marcus called from the hijack. Russell Thomas came along from the big blind and three players saw a flop of {3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. Thomas checked, Rossiter continued for 1,100, and Marcus folded. Russell did the same and that was the end of that.

Not a big hand by any means, but it did give us a good excuse to update you on their counts.

Ang Makes a Move to Win Some Chips Off Razmi

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Joshua Ang raised to 550 from the cutoff and then called when Mehrdad Razmi three-bet to 1,700 from the small blind. When the flop fell {3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, Razmi bet 2,800 and Ang thought for a long time before making the call.

Razmi then led out for 5,500 on the {K-Hearts} turn and Ang quickly min-raised to 11,000. Razmi paused for a few moments before making the call and then checked the {6-Clubs} river. Ang bet 13,200 and Razmi released his hand. Ang then showed the {6-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a flush, though not a very big one.

Neilson Raises the River

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Daniel Neilson raised it up preflop from early position and just the gentleman in the big blind made the call. The flop came {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and the big blind checked. Neilson made a continuation bet of 500 and his opponent called. The big blind bet out 1,000 on the {3-Diamonds} turn and Neilson called in position. The {8-Diamonds} completed the board and the big blind now bet out 2,000. Neilson raised to 7,500 and after a big sigh it was the big blind who folded.

Ivey Starts Off On the Right Foot

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Phil Ivey's success at the Aussie Millions is well documented. Of his $23,856,034 in career live tournament earnings, Ivey has earned $8,132,084 of that from the Oceania region, or greater than one-third. He's won the Aussie Millions LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge three times, finished second in the $100,000 Challenge in 2010, and recorded a trio of top-30 finishes in the Main Event.

Ivey's best result in the Main Event came in 2012 when he took 12th out of a field of 659 entries for AU$100,000.

Additionally, one of Ivey's 10 World Series of Poker gold bracelets came from Australia, when he won the WSOP Asia-Pacific's AU$2,200 Mixed Event in 2013.

Ivey's in the field for Day 1c, opting to enter a little late into the day, but nonetheless he's gotten off to a positive start. On one of his early hands, Ivey bet 4,000 on the river of a board that read {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, and his opponent tank-called. Ivey turned up the {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} for two pair, jacks and sevens, and his opponent mucked his hand.
