Hachem in Good Spirits Following Elimination

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Tony Hachem has been eliminated from the main event but was more than happy to recap how he busted.

The hand started with John Dalessandri raising to 2,100 from under the gun before Hachem moved all in for 15,000 from middle position. The action folded back around to Dalessandri who snap-called.

Hachem was in trouble holding ace-king versus Dalessadnri's pocket kings and no help would come from the board resulting in Hachem hitting the rail early on Day 2.

Hachem had been seated with good friend Shane Warne from the start of the day and wished him all the best for the remainder of the tournament.

Geisel Busts Huang

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We caught Bryan Huang just as he was headed for the exit and he gave us a recap of how it all went wrong. Huang got all the chips in preflop with ace-king against the pocket queens of Fabian Geisel and with no ace or king making an appearance Huang’s 2017 Aussie Millions run is over.

Mladenovski Lets It Go

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Tony Mladenovski’s stack has dwindled a bit since finishing with the chip lead on Day 1c yesterday. He just threw his cards away in a three-handed pot.

The board read {7-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and after a bet of 1,300 from the under the gun player, Mladenovski made the call next to act. The man on the button then reached deep into his stack and came over the top for 9,200.

The initial bettor folded but Mladenovski called to see the {9-Hearts} arrive on the turn.

Mladenovski checked it over to the button who continued for 13,700. After over a minute of deliberation, Mladenovski flashed the {a-Spades} and relinquished his hand.

Grafton Eliminates Boustani

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Sam Grafton and Charbel Boustani battled blind-versus-blind preflop with the latter finding himself all in and at risk.

Grafton had {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and was crushing Boustani's {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts} to see Grafton hold with his over pair resulting in Boustani being sent to the rail.

Not Everything is Peachy in Holz-Land

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Fedor Holz bought in today and received 30,000 in chips for his AUD$10,000 contribution to the prize pool. An hour later, he had turned that 30,000 into 140,000.

Holz proves to be human after all, and he can still lose pots. We just saw him bet 24,500 from the button on a board of {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. The small blind called and Holz showed his {3-Hearts}{3-Spades} instantly in defeat. The small blind tabled {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and raked in the sizable pot.

Guerin Spikes River to Double

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We arrived just in time to catch the tail end of a hand between Didier Guerin and Sam Higgs. We caught the action on a flop of {6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} with Guerin (button) betting out for 5,300 following a Higgs check from the small blind.

Higgs check-raised to what looked to be around 12,600 though Guerin moved in over the top and Higgs called so quickly it was difficult to get an exact count before the hand played out.

Both players had flopped two pairs with Higgs having the best of it holding {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts} versus the {k-Spades}{3-Spades} of Guerin, who had already stood up and started packing his stuff.

The {9-Spades} turn did not change anything but just as Guerin was about to head for the rail he spiked the {3-Hearts} river to fill up and steal the pot out from under Higgs’ nose. Higgs slumped forward in disbelief holding his head in his hands as Guerin patted him consolingly on the back and apologized for that cruel twist of fate.

Reigning Champ Hits The Rail

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ari Engel
Ari Engel

The 2016 Aussie Millions Champion Ari Engel won’t be defending his title after running into an opponent’s pocket aces.

We missed the bust out but Matthew Wakeman who was sitting on Engel’s left filled us in on the details. The story goes that Engel opened the action to 2,300 before the player in the big blind made it 7,100 to go.

That’s when Engel moved all in and was called instantly by his opponent with the best preflop hand in hold’em. Engel had a modest pocket fours and couldn’t improve to see last year’s champ sent packing.

Seidel Stacking

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On a board of {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} Vojtech Ruzicka bet out 6,900 which send his opponent, Erik Seidel, into the tank.

Shortly after Seidel called and watched as Ruzicka flipped over {k-Spades}{q-Spades} for king-high. Seidel then rolled over his {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for a pair of aces and the winning hand.

Seidel has already amassed an additional 100,000 in chips since the start of the day and now sits among the chip leaders.

Davies Goes Croc Hunting

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Scott Davies
Scott Davies

Scott Davies has chalked up some great results in Australia with nine cashes on his poker resume including a win in the 2014 WSOP APAC Main Event for AU$850,136 (US$737,907) and is looking to go the distance here at the Aussie Millions.

We caught the action on a flop of {7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} in a hand between Davies and local legend Billy ‘The Croc’ Argyros. Davies (cutoff) checked the action over to Argyros (button) who fired out a pot-sized bet of 9,900, which Davies called.

Both players checked the {3-Hearts} turn and the {j-Spades} river brought four to a straight and a bet of 8,700 from Davies. Argyros, wearing his trademark crocodile t-shirt, did not look too thrilled about this turn of events and after thinking things over grudgingly folded leaving Davies to rake in the pot.

Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

On a board of {10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} we saw the big blind bet out 2,500. Nick Petrangelo raised to 8,000 and the button folded. The big blind announced all in just about instantly and Petrangelo called.

Big blind: {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Nick Petrangelo: {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The river {8-Spades} was as safe a card as any and Petrangelo doubled up.
