Mcguire Forces a Bullet From Li

Tom Mcguire
Tom Mcguire

Aaron Li and Tom Mcguire were faced with a Q104 flop with several thousand already in the middle.

Mcguire checked to Li, who bet 7,000. Mcguire then shoved for around 45,000 total and Li called all in, not having used any additional bullets.

Mcguire held the lead with top pair, but would need to fade a gunshot and overs to win.

The Q5 runout improved Mcguire to a full house and Li was forced to put an additional bullet into play.

Australian Poker Open Trophy
Australian Poker Open Trophy

Another action-packed day at the Australian Poker Open saw 32 players take their seats last night for the $1,500 Heads Up Championship inside the lavish Club Marconi at Doltone House Western Sydney. After a brisk three rounds, only four players remained undefeated — Ricardo Bono, Andrew White, Aaron Li, and Tom Mcguire.

Today at 6 p.m., the final two matches will be played to determine who will be crowned the undisputed champion. All four semifinalists have already locked up a min-cash worth A$6,350, but each will be gunning for the top prize of A$17,600, which represents the biggest slice of the A$43,200 prize pool.

The semifinal round pits Li against Mcguire, while Bono and White will battle for a spot in the finals.

Following the same structure as Day 1, each player will begin with three bullets, each worth 50,000 in chips. A player may use any of their bullets to add an additional 50,000 to their stack at any time before the start of a match or between hands. Levels will increase every 15 minutes and begin with blinds of 500/1,000 with a 1,000 big-blind ante. The finals will use the same format, with each player starting with a fresh set of three bullets.

With the title and heads-up glory on the line, each remaining player is sure to bring their A-game. Don’t miss a beat — PokerNews will be there every step of the way until one player is left standing and crowned the APO Heads Up Champion!
