Seventy-eight players are set to return Sunday for Day 2 of the 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Winter Open $2,000 Main Event to play down to a winner. Two starting flights saw 510 entries generate a total prize pool of $918,000, all of which will be distributed today with the lion's share of $177,817 up top for the soon-to-be-named champion.

Day 1b chip leader Tyler Payne was the lone player in the field to finish with above half a million, and he enters the day as the overall top stack in the tournament with 507,000. Payne is trailed in the counts by Nick Raio (417,000), who also advanced via Day 1b, with Day 1a chip leader Dustin Holladay (365,000) rounding out the top three in the counts.

James Calderaro (344,000), Scott Stewart (339,000), Justin Zaki (326,000), Timothy Miles (313,000), and Ricardo Eyzaguirre (281,000) all follow closely behind with top-10 stacks as well, and plenty more formidable threats can also be found all the way down the leader board.

The city of Jacksonville is well-represented on Day 2 as well, with a dozen local players coming into the day. Two of those players are Kelley Slay (182,000) and Kelly Slay (82,000), a couple not only married but also business partners away from the felt. Both Slays have cashed in the same tournament before in their careers, and they have the possibility to do so again today.

Day 2 begins in Level 15 with blinds of 3,000/5,000 and a 5,000 big-blind ante. Levels will remain 40 minutes in length through to the end with 15-minute breaks at the end of Levels 17 and 19. A 30-minute dinner break will also occur at the completion of Level 22, and all breaks thereafter will last 15 minutes once again and occur after three more levels each are played.

The bubble will be looming near when play begins, with the top 64 places due to make it into the money. That means 14 players will come up empty-handed on Day 2, while everybody else will lock up at minimum a first-level payout of $3,213. This tournament will also feature a live stream when the final table of eight is reached, found at bestbet Jacksonville's Twitch Page.

PokerNews will be on hand all the way to the finish line bringing you updates straight from the source. Keep it here to make sure you don't miss anything.

On the first hand of hand-for-hand play, all of the chips went into the middle before the flop between Jason Block in the hijack and Cory Williams in the cutoff, the latter of whom at risk for his tournament life and a chance to double his stack of 170,000.

Cory Williams: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Jason Block: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Williams was staring at delivering a cooler to Block but instead found himself on the short end of the stick as the runout came {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to give Block backdoor hearts for a flush and eliminate Williams on the bubble.

All players remaining are now officially in the money and have guaranteed themselves at least $3,213.

Toby Boas on Day 1a
Toby Boas on Day 1a

Toby Boas was under the gun and announced he was all in for 138,000. Action folded around the table to Justin Zaki, who was in the cutoff and re-jammed. All remaining players folded.

Toby Boas: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Justin Zaki: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Boas found his situation only worsen on the flop {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, and he was drawing dead by the turn {j-Diamonds}. The river {9-Diamonds} completed the runout and the pot was shipped to Zaki, resulting in Boas' elimination just before the first break of the day.

Ryan Snow Eliminated by Matt Mauldin
Ryan Snow Eliminated by Matt Mauldin

Fililpp Khavin opened to 25,000 in the hijack and received calls from both Matt Mauldin on the button and Ryan Snow in the small blind. Action went three ways to the flop {j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, where action checked to Mauldin and he bet 65,000. Snow check-jammed for 143,000, Khavin folded, and Mauldin called.

Ryan Snow: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Matt Mauldin: {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

"What a flop," said somebody at the table. Even with a commanding lead, Snow was unable to fade running {10-Clubs}{q-Spades}, which improved Mauldin to a straight and sent Snow to the payout desk.

After winning the pot, Mauldin has now chipped up to over 1.1 million and looks to be the chip leader with 30 players left in the tournament.

Stewart Knocks Out Tran To Reach Final Three Tables

Level 20 : 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Scott Stewart
Scott Stewart

Chuck Tabor opened to 40,000 in middle position and Scott Stewart called in the hijack. Tommy Tran three-bet shoved for 400,000 on the button and Tabor thought for a while before folding. A second later, Stewart called and Tabor showed that he folded {a-}{q-} for a quick second.

Tommy Tran: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Scott Stewart: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

"I'll take a chop," offered Stewart after the flop {6-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, but it was not in the cards for Tran as the turn {q-Diamonds} and river {7-Spades} completed the runout to result in him taking 25th place.

With 24 players remaining, the tournament clock has been paused for the full three-table redraw. There will be a short break in the meantime while staff cleans and sanitizes the three tables in play. An updated list of chip counts and seat assignments will be posted shortly.

Tabor Rides A Heater; Slay Falls

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Chuck Tabor
Chuck Tabor

Kelly Slay was down to her last 150,000 or so and open-jammed under the gun. Chuck Tabor called on her direct left, prompting all players left in the hand to fold.

Kelly Slay: {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Chuck Tabor: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Slay connected with the flop {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and stayed ahead on the turn {7-Clubs}, but the river {8-Spades} fell behind to complete the runout and give Tabor a set.

"Ah!" sighed Slay as the river hit, seeing the bad news. Several players at the table congratulated her on a great run and told her it was a pleasure to play with her. "It was a pleasure playing with y'all!" Slay added and headed to the payouts.

The won pot was the second in a short blast of hands for Tabor, as he had just doubled through tablemate Samuel Oh moments prior. He now has 655,000.

Guy Caudill Eliminated in 14th Place; Kelley Slay Eliminated in 13th Place ($11,475)

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Guy Caudill
Guy Caudill

Ken Stacy opened to 80,000 in the cutoff and Guy Caudill called all in for his last 20,000 on the button. Chris Perry defended his big blind and side-pot action went heads up to a flop of {2-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Both players checked.

Perry bet 50,000 on the turn {2-Clubs} and. Stacy raised to 200,000. Perry thought long and hard before calling, leading to action going check-check on the river {3-Spades} to take the hand to showdown.

Guy Caudill: {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Chris Perry: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Ken Stacy: {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Perry was the only one with an ace and scooped both pots, resulting in Caudill taking 14th place.

On the very next hand, Kelley Slay shoved his last few big blinds into the middle and Stacy was the one to give him action.

Kelley Slay: {a-}{k-}
Ken Stacy: {q-}{10-} - suited

Stacy hit a queen on the turn to send Slay packing in 13th, resulting in two eliminations in as many hands. Tables were then balanced, and both tables are now playing six handed.
