McClanahan Cooked

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Shawn McClanahan was under the gun and open-shoved for his last 45,000 or so. Wendy Lu was on his direct left and announced she was also all in, causing everybody left in the hand to fold.

Shawn McClanahan: {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Wendy Lu: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

McClanahan acknowledged the bad news and watched the runout come {q-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{k-Hearts}, failing to improve him to bring about his elimination from the tournament.

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Steve Rash on Day 1
Steve Rash on Day 1

Action folded to Steve Rash on the button and he raised it up to 18,000. Karl Manouchakian defended his big blind and action went heads up to the flop {3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades}. Both players checked.

The turn came {6-Hearts} and Manouchakian bet 15,000. Rash called and the river fell {6-Diamonds}. Manouchakian bet another 30,000 and Rash thought about his decision for about 40 seconds before announcing an all-in raise for more than 100,000.

Manouchakian decided it was more than he wished to commit and sent his cards to the muck without much further deliberation.

The bestbet Jacksonville Winter Open series kicked off with Event #1: $560 No-Limit Hold’em, which attracted 592 runners and offered up a $296,000 prize pool.

That was paid out to the top 75 finishers, and among those to earn a cash but fall short of the final table were Keegan Westover (57th - $1,016), Ronald Sewell (50th - $1,172), Wendy Lu (37th - $1,335), Heather Warde (23rd - $2,173), Susan Hazelgrove (14th - $3,723), and John Kinsey (10th - $4,656).

After Jeffrey Hicks bowed out in sixth place for $11,353, the final five players opted to chop it up evenly, meaning they all locked up $30,460 in prize money. Officially being deemed the champ was local player Huilin Chen, who received the coveted bestbet Jacksonville trophy.

David Jackson
David Jackson

Jason Block saw action fold to him in the hijack and opened to 14,000, receiving a call from Thad McNjlty in the cutoff. David Jackson three-bet shoved for 72,000 in the small blind and Block folded. McNulty then thought for a few moments, counting out chips to call and sliding them forward on the felt.

David Jackson: {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}
Thad McNulty: {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

Jackson tabled his hand first, resulting in laughter from McNulty as he showed his underpair. The board ran out {10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} to leave the situation unchanged and Jackson earned the double through McNulty.

Moments earlier, McNulty delivered a blow of fate to Block, getting pocket kings in against Block's aces and finding a double just the same as Block did at the beginning of the level to burst the bubble.

Nearly 20 minutes passed after the bubble burst before Paul Petraglia became the 64th-place finisher, with a string of eliminations occurring shortly thereafter in quick succession. Of them was Justin Liberto, who got the last of his chips all in preflop against Barbara Rogers.

Justin Liberto: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Barbara Rogers: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Both players found their kickers connect on the flop {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, leaving Liberto with just two outs that would fail to come as the turn {5-Diamonds} and river {5-Spades} completed the runout.

Cory Williams Eliminated By Jason Block On The Bubble

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Jason Block

On the first hand of hand-for-hand play, all of the chips went into the middle before the flop between Jason Block in the hijack and Cory Williams in the cutoff, the latter of whom at risk for his tournament life and a chance to double his stack of 170,000.

Cory Williams: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Jason Block: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Williams was staring at delivering a cooler to Block but instead found himself on the short end of the stick as the runout came {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to give Block backdoor hearts for a flush and eliminate Williams on the bubble.

All players remaining are now officially in the money and have guaranteed themselves at least $3,213.
