Stewart and Calderaro Go At It; Two Tables Reached

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Scott Stewart
Scott Stewart

Scott Stewart opened to 55,000 on the button and received calls from both Matt Mauldin in the small blind and James Calderaro, defending his big blind. Mauldin checked the flop {5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and Calderaro bet 80,000. Stewart called and Mauldin folded.

Heads-up action checked through the turn {6-Clubs} and the river came {9-Diamonds}. Calderaro checked.

"One-(hundred and) forty," said Stewart, tossing out a matching amount of chips. Calderaro thought for a moment.

"You got seven-eight? asked Calderaro.

"No," replied Stewart immediately. Silence ensued for a bit. "You think I'd raise the button with seven-eight?" asked Stewart.

"Yes," said Calderaro.

"You're not wrong," Stewart said. Some more exchange occurred, with Calderaro saying that he thought Stewart was going to get him to pay. He announced that he was going back and forth with his decision and eventually found a call. Stewart immediately tabled {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} in a manner where he knew he was good, and Calderaro acknowledged as much as he looked back at his cards, chiding the river.

"Queen-jack," said Stewart, almost certain of what Calderaro had. Calderaro tossed {q-}{j-} onto the center of the table and it was displayed for a split second before the dealer scooped it up to begin the shuffle for the next hand.

"God damn, you luck box bitch! That's the only way you could beat me!"

On the next hand, Calderaro doubled Thad McNulty with ace-five to McNulty's sixes to bring stacks to their current values as two tables remain due to the elimination of Jeff Klein on an adjacent table.
