Event 3: $560 Deep-Stack NLHE Reentry

Day 1 Started

Event 3 Set to Start in Thirty Minutes

Card will be in the air in thirty minutes as Event 3 kicks off

With the weekend now upon us, the third event of this Borgata Spring Poker Open will be underway in just under 30 minutes, with the $560 Deep Stack No-Limit Hold'em Reentry tournament expected to attract a packed house.

The first two events on the series schedule have been hits, drawing huge turnouts, exceeding guarantees and providing the perfect platform for the Borgata to showcase the East Coast's premier poker operation.

Event 3 is scheduled to be a two-day tournament, with late registration and reentries available through Level 6 today. Judging by the bevy of bullets fired by players in Event 1 (which attracted more than 2,400 entries and reentries over four starting flights), we wouldn't be surprised to see at least 500 entries tallied when its all said and done.

Plenty of big name pros and local heroes have been in attendance thus far at the series, so we expect to see Victor Ramdin, Micah Raskin, James Woods, Timothy Little, Joseph Stiers, Kenneth Lind, Cherish Andrews, Anna Khait and all the rest take their shot at a score here today.

Keep it right here to follow all of the action, as PokerNews proudly provides coverage live from the floor of the Borgata Spring Poker Open.

Cards Are in the Air

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Play has begun in Event 3 and cards are now in the air.

Players are still streaming through the entrances in search of their seats though, and some tables have just two or three players sitting at the moment.

We will have a list of notable names, local heroes and poker pros who have sat down after a quick lap around the room.

Slow Going

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

The atmosphere is quite subdued in the Signature Room - at least for the time being - as players appear content to contest small pots and feel one another out.

Late registrants are also trickling in slowly but surely, and soon enough the room will be filled to capacity, with spillover tables being played in the Borgata Poker Room.

Trouble in Paradis

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Covering the early stages of a poker tournament can often be an exercise in monotony, as players test the waters with standard plays while contesting smallish pots. Every so often though, a play is made that awes and astounds even the most grizzled veterans of the live reporting game. Thanks to Fred Paradis, we just saw that play personally, and it was a sight to behold.

After a limped pot produced a flop of {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}, Paradis led out with a standard bet of 200 and found a caller in Philippe Casciola. The turn card came {k-Clubs} and Paradis fired away with a bet of 400, and once again Casciola simply flatted the bet in position.

When fifth street brought the {6-Diamonds} to the table, Paradis continued with his line and doubled the bet once again, making it 800 to go. That's when Casciola awoke from his slumber and raised to 3,000, putting the pressure back on Paradis.

He was undeterred by the raise, however, and a three-bet to 6,500 was in order. That's when Casciola suddenly moved all in for the four-bet shove, putting his last 12,000 or so into the middle.

Paradis studied the board for a few seconds, as well as Casciola in the next seat to his left, before casually flipping his {K-Hearts}{4-Clubs} face up on the table. For all the world it looked as if Paradis had made the call - after all, he did hold a full house and could beat aces, a set of eights, and literally every hand in the deck except {K-}{6-} and {K-}{8-}.

Casciola, for his part, was a bit surprised and he had to ask if a call had been made when he saw Paradis' hand hit the felt.

In the end though, Paradis was convinced that Casciola held the {k-}{8-}, and he moved on from the hand without a second thought.

The Kat Bird Seat

Katayon Khaterzai
Katayon Khaterzai

We've spotted another familiar face in the crowd here today, as Katayon Khaterzai is trying her best to make another deep run here at the Borgata.

Khaterzai made a deep run in the WPT Main Event Championship at the Borgata Winter Poker Open last January, ultimately falling in 28th place for a $15,084 score.

After shining so brightly on the big stage just a few months prior, we're sure she will be a force to be reckoned with here today.
