Day 4 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open WPT Main Event In the Books, Six-Handed TV Table Set

After four days of intense action on the felt a stacked field of 1,229 runners was whittled to just 36, and today that number was pared down to form one of the most exciting spectacles in the game: a World Poker Tour televised final table.

The showdown to decide six of the most coveted seats in the Borgata began at high noon, and soon after that the bloodletting began. Players joined the battle in earnest, trying desperately to escape the onslaught of escalating blinds and antes, and by the second level of the day players were busting seemingly every few hands.

Dangerous professionals fell by the wayside along the way, including Chad Brown (26th), Faraz Jaka (22nd), Byron Kaverman (21st), Ronit Chamani (13th) and Chris Reslock (10th).

Along the way, a few floor decisions were necessary - first to correct Farid Jattin's raising action when players were unsure if he was calling or not - and again when a dealer's miscalled raise amount confused Bryan Choi into putting the wrong amount of chips in the middle. Despite those bumps in the road though, the path to the six-handed TV final table was rather smooth, and within 12 hours the 36 survivors had been whittled down to seven, with each sweating a truly life-changing bubble.

Unfortunately for Kunal Patel, he would be the one left outside looking in, as he fell in 7th place to end the night along with his deep run.

After Patel made his exit, the tournament area broke out in raucous applause and celebration, as the six remaining players hugged and shook hands, exchanged details with their friends on the rail, and simply soaked in the moment.

Below you will find the seating assignments and chip counts for the six-handed final table - along with payout information - which will kick off tomorrow at 4 p.m. local time. Check back with PokerNews then to see who will emerge victorious, becoming the next player to have their name engraved on the glittering WPT Champions Cup.

Kunal Patel Eliminated in Seventh Place ($135,172)

Kunal Patel - Seventh Place
Kunal Patel - Seventh Place

Kunal Patel was in the cutoff, and he called a preflop raise of 230,000 from Anthony Maio. After a flop of {3-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, Maio bet 180,000. Patel made the call, and the two saw a {2-Diamonds} arrive on the turn. Maio checked, and Patel bet 400,000. Maio raised to 1,075,000, and Patel pushed all in.

Maio snap-called, tabling {2-Hearts}{2-Spades} for a turned set.

"Sick," Patel said softly, holding his {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} limply. Maio gave a muted mini-celebration, as if he was afraid of overdoing it in case the river broke his heart.

When the dealer burned and turned the {4-Diamonds}, Maio let loose with a fully audible yell and clap before offering a handshake to an exiting Patel.

"Yes, I Liked That Door Card..."

After opening to 245,000 from under the gun, Farid Jattin watched Robert Merulla three-bet jam for 1.27 million more.

Jattin asked for a count but before he could find out the accurate information, he suddenly announced a call and tabled {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}.

Merulla could only muster the {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and he would need to find some paint to catch up. The dealer burned a card and flashed the flop, with the {q-Hearts} appearing right in the window.

Merulla's expression never so much as flinched, and when the full flop was revealed to be {q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{10-Clubs} he found himself fading five outs on the televised final table bubble.

The turn ({9-Clubs}) and river ({7-Spades}) offered no help to Jattin, and with that Merulla secured the most important double up of his poker career.

Jared Jaffee asked Merulla if he liked the door card much, and his poker face finally cracked just a bit.

"I mean, it was still a sweat..." he said, his grin spreading wider as he told the tale. "But yes, I liked that door card."

Jaffe Takes From Maio With Huge Four-Bet

After an open to 225,000 by Jared Jaffe in the hijack, Anthony Maio put him to the test with a three-bet to 525,000 from the cutoff.

Jaffee was undeterred, however, and his response was to make one of the largest four-bets of the tournament thus far, reraising to 1.4 million.

Maio went into the tank to deliberate on what may be the most important bubble of his poker career. With an appearance at the televised final table on the line, Maio checked and rechecked his hole cards and counted out stacks, before flicking his cards away to forfeit the pot.

Farid Jattin opened for a raise to 175,000 on the button, and Justin Lunin-Pack jammed for about 1 million in the big blind. Jattin called right away with {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, and his opponent had {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}.

"Good call," a player at the table said.

It got even better when the board ran out {8-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{a-Spades}, giving Jattin a full house to eliminate Lunin-Pack, who notched a cash that's roughly triple his career recorded earnings.

After Jared Jaffee opened to 195,000 he watched Robert Merulla defend his small blind with a call, and Kunal Patel do the same from the big blind.

The flop rolled out {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs} and the three checked around, bringing the {2-Diamonds} to the table on the turn. Merulla led out for 225,000 on fourth street and only Patel came along, bringing the {k-Clubs} on board with the river.

Merulla checked the action on fifth street, inviting Patel to make a big bet of 605,000 and force the fold.

Bryan Choi Eliminated in 9th Place ($71,504)

After waking up with {Q-Clubs}{q-Spades} in the hole, David Paredes knew the chance to stack an opponent had arrived... if only he could bait one of them into making an ill-timed move.

Paredes opened for the standard raise of 175,000 from late position, and when Bryan Choi three-bet to 380,000 in defense of his big blind, Paredes decided to play his premium pocket pair slowly, setting a trap for Choi and hoping he would stumble.

Rather than four-betting big to protect his hand, Paredes flatted the raise and took the {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop in position. Choi missed the flop with his {A-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, but after Paredes' only called his preflop three-bet, the dry board appeared to offer an opportunity.

Choi fired away with a 425,000 bet and Paredes went for the kill, raising it up to 1 million even and staring his man down. With the action back on him - and about 2 million chips to work with if he decided to surrender - Choi opted instead for an all-in play for 2,475,000 total.

Paredes snapped him off with his overpair to the board, and needing to fade the deck's three remaining aces, he watched as the turn ({10-Spades}) and river ({k-Hearts}) kept his ladies in the lead.

The experienced pro immediately stood and headed over to shake Choi's hand, a gracious gesture given by a professional to an amateur, congratulating him on making it this far against such tough competition.

Bryan Choi raised to 200,000 under the gun. Anthony Maio called, Robert Merulla followed suit, and David Paredes bumped it to 875,000. Action folded back to Choi, who made the call. Maio called as well, but Merulla dumped his hand.

The first two players checked to Paredes on the {4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop, and he fired 875,000. Choi quickly folded, and Maio only considered for a moment before doing the same.

Vladislav Mezheritsky opened for 175,000 from the hijack and only David Choi came along, calling to defend his small blind.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and Choi led out for 150,000, with Mezheritsky flatting to take the {8-Diamonds} on the turn. Both players checked fourth street down and the river card came {2-Clubs}.

Choi opted to try and take the pot away with a 350,000 wager, but Mezheritsky wasted little time in looking him up. Choi instantly tabled {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for pure air, and Mezheritsky rolled over the {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for the winner.

"Good thing clubs didn't come..." remarked Mezheritsky as the pot was pushed his way, knowing that if a flush had fallen he would have as well.

Chris Reslock Eliminated in 10th Place ($46,625)

Chris Reslock open-shoved for his last 750,000 and Anthony Maio quickly asked for a count. Before the dealer could even tell him the amount, Maio eyeballed Reslock's stack and announced the call. The rest of the table folded around in dutiful fashion, happy to let Maio and Reslock slug it out with a pay jump on the line.

Maio tabled the {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} with confidence, and Reslock could only say "uh oh" with a smile on his face, knowing he was up against it with his tournament life on the line.

The board rolled out {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{a-Clubs} to keep the queens out in front, and Reslock stood up with a smile to shake hands with his former tablemates. He finished in 10th place here today and earned $46,625 for the deep run through this stacked WPT Main Event field.
