Wolper Extends Record With Three More Cashes

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Howard Wolper
Howard Wolper

Howard Wolper holds the record for most cashes in tournaments at Borgata, by a wide margin, and he extended that record three more notches since the Summer Open.

When he finished 60th in the $300 Deepest Stack NLH tournament ($598) during the BSPO in July, that was number 123. Since then, he says he's cashed three more times, raising his total to 126.

Now he's on the hunt for number 127!

Ferrante Fights On

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Damon Ferrante
Damon Ferrante

During the Summer Poker Open in July, Damon Ferrante made a deep run in this same event, finishing 42nd out of 1,925 entrants ($3,176). That was an improvement on and follow-up to his 66th place finish in the Spring Poker Open Kick-Off back in April ($2,304).

He's has been battling Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia since 2011, when he turned to poker as a way to take his focus away from his disease and give him something else to occupy his mind. In 2016, PokerStars took notice and made a deal to sponsor him in tournaments. He donates most of his winnings to charity and PokerStars matches his donations, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars going to worthy causes.

Last December, PokerStars rewarded Ferrante's charitable efforts with a Platinum Pass to the Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship, worth $25,000, and a free trip to the Bahamas where the tournament was held. Although he didn’t cash in that event, it was the experience of a lifetime. He continues to survive and thrive, sporting that PokerStars patch.

Ferrante took home his first and only Borgata trophy in June of 2017 when he won the $230 Deeper Stack NLH event, earning $10,758.

A Moment of Remembrance During Break

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Mary Hartill
Mary Hartill

Level 4 is done and the Flight E players are getting their first 15 minute break of the day.

While they're away from the action, we want to take a moment to remember a special lady. Mary Hartill passed away yesterday morning. She was always a friendly face, but serious about the game of poker. The self-proclaimed "Poker Bitch" was a force to be reckoned with at the table.

She was a member of the Big Boys Poker Club from Queens, NY, and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Michael Wang Turns Up in Flight E

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Michael Wang

Michael Wang is making his BPO debut today in Flight E. The WSOP bracelet winner has two Borgata titles as well, from 2012 (PLO/8) and 2015 ($1,000 SixMax NLH).

Of course the $466,120 he won along with the bracelet in 2015 remains his best live cash, but he's amassed more than $2.3 million in lifetime reported tournament earnings.

He's on a bit of a hot streak, cashing three times last month in the WSOP Circuit series at Foxwoods, so perhaps he can continue the streak with a deep run in this Kick-Off event.

If At First You Don't Succeed...

Eric Siegel
Eric Siegel

Eric Siegel is back on the felt this morning after a failed attempt at bagging in Flight D last night. He's never one to give up too easily, though.

He collected his fourth Borgata title back in July during the Summer Poker Open. In the $300 Deep Stack NLH post-lim event, he was part of an adjusted payout agreement and as the chip leader, took first place, $30,000, and the trophy.

Siegel surely has a couple more bullets in his pocket if necessary, but he's not one to continue throwing good money after bad. With more than $875,000 in tournament earnings, he's proven he's got the skills to go deep.
