McGuinness' River Bluff Picked Off

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante
Mike McGuinness
Mike McGuinness

On a flop of {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs} Mike McGuinness (bb) checked, Seat 1 bet 7,000, and Mike called. On the {4-Hearts} turn, both players checked to see the {k-Clubs} land on the river.

McGuinness fired 8,500 and got a call. His {7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} had flopped a gutshot, but never completed, so his bet was a stone-cold bluff. Seat 1 tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and was ahead the whole way, pairing his King on the river, and taking the pot.

Mike is aneight time Borgata tournament winner, but has yet to win an event during a major Open series.

After an open from Seat 6 on the button, Mitchell Mantin (bb) moved all-in for about 12,000 and got called.

"This is supposed to win," he said about his {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} when he saw his opponent's {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} but it was not meant to be as the board came {k-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Clubs}. The last of his chips were pushed to Seat 6 and Mantin headed for the exit.

Valentino Can Read Minds

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Romeo Valentino
Romeo Valentino

On the turn with a board full of big cards, Seat 8 got all-in and called by Romeo Valentino, who had {j-}{j-}. His opponent's {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} had a flush draw but nothing else and when the river bricked, Valentino took the pot.

"He can read minds," said one of his tablemates. It's serving him well as he's up to 125,000.

Mike Muniz is seated on Valentino's left, after re-entering. "Two hands," he said, "two hands and I was out — rivered both times!"

Now he's got a new seat and a new stack and is starting fresh.

Big Slick Does the Trick for Avery

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Corbin Avery
Corbin Avery

A player opened for 2,200 from middle position and was met by an all-in three-bet to 18,200 from Corbin Avery in the small blind. The original raiser, who had 19,600, paused for a few beats and then opted to call stating, "I got you beat."

Avery: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {j-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The table got a good laugh upon seeing the original raiser's hole cards, which while they didn't have Avery beat were both live. Fortunately for Avery the board ran out {3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts} and he made top pair to double.
