Stolt Takes First Game

Arian Stolt
Arian Stolt

The board read {6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{q-Spades}{k-Hearts} when Matthew Emmel bet 2,000 and Arian Stolt shoved with the bigger stack on the button. Emmel called for the 10,800 he had left.

Matthew Emmel: {q-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Arian Stolt: {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Emmel had a pair of queens but Stolt had two pair so Emmel needed a ten to stay alive.

But the river completed the board with the {2-Clubs} for the first game to go Stolt's way, the players went for a short break before starting their second game.

Timothy Rutherford raised to 1,600 from the button and Qi Hu shoved. Rutherford asked for a count and the dealer confirmed Hu had 21,600, so more than Rutherford. He took some time to contemplate and then made the call for the 18,400 he had behind.

Timothy Rutherford: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Qi Hu: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for Hu to hold with the pair of sevens to claim the first game to his name before they both agreed to go for a short break.

First One for Abela

Christopher Abela
Christopher Abela

Jeffrey Hong completed his button and Christopher Abela opted to check.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, Abela check-shoved with the bigger stack after Hong bet 1,000. Hong contemplated for a while and then made the call for the 12,400 he had behind.

Jeffrey Hong; {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Christopher Abela: {j-Diamonds}{5-Spades}

They both had a flush draw with Hong the better of it with the higher diamond card but Abela had also flopped a pair of fives.

The turn was the {8-Hearts} which didn't change things and neither did the {6-Hearts}. First game goes to Abela and they both agreed to take a 10-minute break before resuming play.

The board read {j-Spades}{a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Spades}{a-Diamonds} with 9,000 in the middle.

Arian Stolt shoved for 15,500 and Matthew Emmel had the same exact stack. He considered what to do for a while and then made the call. Stolt sighed and tabled {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the bluff. Emmel quickly showed {a-Spades}{10-Spades} for trip aces to claim the third and final game of this heads-up match to advance to the semi-final.

Stolt made his way to the payout desk to collect $8,439.

David Forbes
David Forbes

The flop read {j-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Sandeep Pulusani had bet 1,600. David Forbes shoved to put Pulusani at risk who ended up calling for the 7,200 he had behind.

Sandeep Pulusani: {j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
David Forbes: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Pulusani had flopped a pair of jacks but Forbes had two pair. Pulusani needed running deuces to stay in the game but the river completed the board with the {9-Clubs} and {9-Hearts} instead.

One-one and both players took a quick break before resuming play.
