Straight Flush > Quads

Moments ago, a table in the back row of the convention center exploded with cheers. It piqued our interest, and once the cell phone cameras started coming out, we opted to rush over.

When we arrived, we saw something quite incredible - a straight flush and quads. In the same hand.

The board was {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}, and Wee Tan was left shaking his head with {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}. His opponent, David Paredes, was all smiles with {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}.

According to Paredes, he was all in on the river for 37,975. Tan obviously made the call, and despite losing the large pot, is still healthy with around 50,000 chips.

Paredes is now up to around 90,000 chips, and has a story to tell for the rest of his life.

Baumstein More Than Doubles

With about 50,000 in the pot and the board reading {6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, one player checked to another who fired 39,000. Scott Baumstein raised all in for 55,800 total, the first player folded, and the second called the remaining 16,800.

Baumstein tabled {6-Hearts}{6-Spades} for a set, one upping his opponent's {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. The river brought the {J-Clubs}, locking up the 200-big-blind pot for Baumstein.

Shail Takes a Hit

A player opened to 1,900 in middle position, Michael Shail called, and the flop came {8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{q-Spades}. The player continued for 3,200, and Shail called.

The turn was the {9-Clubs}, and the raiser fired a second bullet worth 6,100. Shail called. The river was another nine - the {9-Hearts} - and the player led for a third and final time. The bet was 11,100, and after a moment for thought, Shail called.

The player turned over {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for trip nines, and a disgruntled Shail showed, {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

"Runner-runner, eh?" he asked.

Shail took a hit, and is now down to around 167,000 chips.
