Jacked Up

After his short-stack push with {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} was called in not just one, but two separate spots, Axel Marten Albertsson must have been delighted to see that he was up against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and {A-Spades}{K-Spades} of Fabrice Soulier and Peter Mattias Nordin respectively, and even more elated when the flop came a jack-tastic {3-Spades}{2-Spades}{J-Clubs}. A raggy {6-Hearts} and {4-Spades} later and the pot was his. Neither of his opponents was eliminated in the hand, but the loss did knock Soulier down to just 4,400.

Brotherly Love

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Big Brother Robert
Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Big Brother Robert
Just a few minutes before the scheduled start of this event, all three Mizrachi brothers were spotted pulling up to the venue in the cab. Eric "ewee" Mizrachi was riding shotgun while his larger framed brothers Robert and Michael more than filled out the backseat of the compact taxi.

Two thirds of the Mizrachi trio still have a chance for glory here in Barcelona. Robert and Eric both made day 2 while Michael is no doubt here to show his support.

A Quick Note

We, along with all the other media outlets, have been experiencing intermittent internet outages. They have not typically been lasting more than a few minutes, however it goes without saying that they can, have, and will cause a disturbance in the continuity of our live coverage.

While we don't expect any more interruptions, they are possible; in which case please keep in mind we are still here, working diligently to bring you the action the moment our connection returns. Thank you for your patience.

Eskilsson Kicked Into Touch

Former International footballer Hans Eskilsson won't be adding any more silverware to his mantelpiece after being eliminated by Bahamas EPT runner up Hafiz Khan. All in with {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} versus {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}, Eskilsson found himself drawing virtually dead on the clinical {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop before the {7-Hearts} turn confirmed his departure.

Rafe Goes With His Instincts

Rafe Furst came into play today low-stacked with only 11,300 in chips and has been mixing things up early, reraising potential late-position stealers from the blinds in an effort to chip up. But that doesn't mean he won't make a big fold when he sees fit.

Furst opened for 2,100 from UTG+1 and Luis Petit reraised to 6,100 from late position. The action was folded back around to Furst, who tanked for several minutes before deciding to open-fold {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}.

"I have a bad feeling about this" said Furst as he mucked his cards.

He's still hanging in there with about 16,000 in chips (and wearing some sharp-looking gold-rimmed aviator sunglasses of which this fashion maven approves).

Level 1 Body Count

In the first level of play today, the field shrank from 203 players to 168 in the space of an hour. For the mathematically challenged that's 35 bustouts, more than one every two minutes.

Recent Eliminations

Karl Erik Drivenes Hevroy got his walking papers when he stacked off on a {Q-Spades} {10-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} board holding {K-Spades} {Q-Clubs} only to see his opponent, Davidi Kitai, turn over {K-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}.

A short-stacked Danny Ryan made a stand with {10-?} {9-?} but was drawing dead by the turn when he got no help against the {K-?} {K-?} of opponent Jean Rohr.
