2008 PokerStars.net EPT Polish Open - Warsaw

Downtown Warsaw
Downtown Warsaw
The 2008 EPT Polish Open, sponsored by the folks over at PokerStars.net, is set to kick off tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. local time when the first of two Day 1 flights takes to the felt here at the Hyatt Regency Casino in Warsaw, Poland.

Last year's winner Peter Willers Jepsen bested a solid field of 284 entrants en route to winning his first major live title and over $400,000 in prize money. A similar-sized field is expected to attend this year's version of the event, one of only three stops on the EPT that will not be televised as part of the show.

PokerNews will be on site for the duration of the tournament, bringing you live updates, chip counts and photos direct from the tournament floor. Live coverage will begin at 1:30 p.m. local time (GMT +1); we hope to see you then!

Delayed Start

The Hyatt Regency is jumping with activity this afternoon, most of which has been generated by the tournament, though there are a couple of other conferences and meetings taking place simultaneously that have swelled the hotel lobby to capacity.

The tournament area is considerably small and the registration counter even smaller. How they expect to cram the 190 players listed on the Day 1a entry list into the poker room remains a mystery, though we'll find out in a moment as the doors to the Hyatt's Casinos Poland are about to open.

It's Official

A member of the tournament staff has just announced that a total of 190 players make up the Day 1A starting field. The tournament will remain open for late registration until the end of the first level of play.

Daniel Ryan Eliminates a Player

With a board reading {4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and 1,600 in the pot already, the player in the small blind position bet out 1,600. Daniel Ryan re-popped it to 4,500 only to face a re-raise all in. It was an easy enough call for the EPT Copehagen final-table finisher as he flipped {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} which was good against the {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs} of his opponent.
