2008 PokerStars.net EPT Polish Open - Day 3

We've reached Day 3 here in Warsaw, Poland and of the 359 runners who started the event earlier this week, only 26 remain. Of those, Juan Lapido Maceiras owns the top spot on the leaderboard, surging late last night to strip the chip lead away from Claus Nielsen who held it for much of the evening.

The biggest name to make the Day 3 cut is Andy Black. The Irishman was all over the map yesterday with some very aggressive bubble play and eventually bagged 85,000 in chips.

Today they'll be playing as many levels as it takes to get down to a nine-handed final table. Live coverage of Day 3 begins at 2:00 p.m. local time (GMT +1); we hope to see you then!

Corral Eliminated by Hicks

Raul Paez Corral
Raul Paez Corral
Tournament short-stack Raul Paez Corral got his remaining ~25,000 into the middle holding {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} and was given action by Kenny Hicks Jr. who tabled {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} at the showdown.

Corral was still safe after the {7-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop, but the {A-Diamonds} on the turn did him in. There would be no rivered miracle for Corral, as the {3-Spades} was the last card to fall off the deck and he exited the tournament area the first casualty of the day. He'll take home $12,628 in prize money for his 26th place finish.

Hicks stacked up just over 250,000 in chips after the hand.

Petlic Doubles Through Ruthenberg

Short-stack Janusz Petlic has doubled up through PokerStars sponsored player Sebastian Ruthenberg after getting it all in pre-flop holding A-K against Ruthenberg's A-Q.

The board ran out jack-high and Petlic's ace-high reigned supreme, giving him a new stack of approximately 97,000 in chips.

Andreas Hagen Eliminated

Andreas Hagen made his last stand with {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}, but was looked up by Michael Schulze who had the dominating {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

The board was dealt out {10-Hearts}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Andreas Hagen was eliminated in 25th place earning $12,628.

Sebastian Ruthenberg Doubles Up

Sebastian Ruthenberg pushed his last 43,000 all in and Piergiorgio D'Ancona re-raised all in from the small blind.

Sebastian: {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Piergiorgio: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The board read {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, which made a timely double up for the German professional.

Chip Leader Active

The chip leader, Juan Maceiras has been quite active in the early goings. Twice Henrik Gwinner has raised to find the Spaniard re-raising him. The second time Henrik called but had to fold when Juan bet out big on the flop. Juan Maceiras has increased his lead without showing a hand.

The Irishman has just been eliminated from the tournament by PokerStars online qualifier Craig Hopkins. All of the money went in pre-flop and at the showdown, Andy revealed {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} finding himself slightly behind Hopkins' {A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. By the turn, the board had delivered not one, but two aces for Hopkins and Black was drawing dead.

Andy will take home $18,942 in prize money for his 24th place finish.
