Michael Schulze - Day 3 Chip Leader
In what was perhaps the fastest Day 3 in EPT history (approx. two hours and seven minutes), we've gone from 26 players to nine, setting up tomorrow's nine-handed final table.

Play will recommence tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (GMT +1), at which time our nine finalists will play down to one.

Someone will walk away with $2,154,000 Polish Zlotys, roughly $946,269 U.S., and PokerNews will be on site bringing you all of the action live from the tournament floor. We hope you'll join us tomorrow afternoon for the conclusion of the 2008 EPT Polish Open! Stay tuned for the names and chip counts of all nine finalists, along with their final table seat assignments.

From Warsaw, Poland - good night and good luck!

Claus Nielsen Eliminated in 10th

Claus Nielsen
Claus Nielsen
Juan Maceiras raised to 26,000 and Michael Schulze called. Claus Nielsen moved all in from the small blind. Juan passed and Schulze made the call.

Claus: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}
Michael: {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The flop removed some of Nielsen's outs when it came down {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and the turn finished the hand as it was the {6-Diamonds}. Schulze completed the flush. The river was a meaningless overkill {J-Spades}.

Claus Nielsen is eliminated in 10th place earning $53,657.

Mathias Viberg Takes One Down

Mathias Viberg
Mathias Viberg
Tournament chip leader Ricardo Sousa opened the pot with a 16,500 raise from the button. Mathias Viberg, representing Nextpoker.com, was the lone caller.

The flop came {9-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Viberg passed the first action to Sousa, who studied Viberg long and hard before making a 20,000 bet. Viberg then cut 55,000 worth of chips from his stack and slid them across the betting line, check-raising his opponent. After quite some time in the tank, Sousa laid down his hand, suggesting he thought that Viberg either had an overpair, or was on a complete bluff. Viberg, not one to reveal any additional information to his opponents, quietly passed his cards to the dealer and raked in the pot.

Players on a 15 minute break

The players have taken a 15 minute break. When they return one more exit will signal the end of play today. The first two levels have been breathtaking and we have lost 16 players. it is certainly the fastest progressing day 3 we have witnessed on the EPT so far.

Chop! Chop!

Mehdi Ouakhir raised on the button and Juan Maceiras re-raised from the big blind. Mehdi then moved all in for 300,000 total and after standing up Juan made the call. It was a race for flushes as both players had A-K. Juan {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and Mehdi {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. The turn brought a second diamond and a freeroll for the Frenchman but the {6-Clubs} brought the chop.

Jean Claude Van Damme . . . err Perrot . . . Eliminated

Fisticuffs, anyone?
Fisticuffs, anyone?
Infamous table-punching Frenchman Jean Claude Perrot was just hit with a fatal blow by now overwhelming chip leader Ricardo Sousa and is our 11th place finisher.

Perrot made it 20,000 to go from the button and when the action folded around to Sousa, he made a bet large enough to put Perrot to a decision for all of his chips. Perrot made the call and tabled a pocket pair of sevens; Sousa showed {K-Spades}{J-Spades}.

A flop of {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} tipped the scales in favor of Sousa, and Perrot, unable to punch his way out of this one, could hardly watch as the rest of the board filled out {3-Spades}, {2-Diamonds}, locking up the hand for Sousa.

Perrot collected $44,188 for his efforts, while Sousa moved past the $1 million mark in chips with the win.

Sousa vs. Nielsen

Ricardo Sousa
Ricardo Sousa
Claus Nielsen made it 17,000 pre-flop and Ricardo Sousa called. The flop was dealt {J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Claus bet 30,000 to speak first, which Ricardo called. The turn was the {J-Diamonds} bringing a possible flush draw and Claus bet 56,000 which resulted in a call from Ricardo. The river was the {2-Diamonds} completing the backdoor flush draw, Claus went into the tank before deciding what to do.

After nearly 5 minutes of thinking, Ricardo decided to call the clock on Nielsen. Just before the clock ran out Nielsen checked. Ricardo put out a bet of 110,000 to which Nielsen folded with a look of disgust on his face.
