Annette_15: Vying for Chip Lead
Besides Faraz Jaka, Luca Pagano and Lee Nelson, there are a handful more creeping over the 100,000 mark now.
Annette Obrestad, who seemed to instantly have 60k at start of play today, has now upped that total to a very healthy 125k, and shows no sign of slowing down.
Other counts:
Mark Teltscher - 50,000
Richard Ashby - 16,600
Jani Sointula - 34,000
Erik Seidel - 36,000
"She's got a stack of yellows!" said a new player who had been broken to Chad Brown's table. He was referring to Annette Obrestad, spotted a few tables away with -- wait for it -- a stack of yellow (T5,000) chips. All told, Obrestad is sitting behind 120,000.
She's not the only one that has climbed significantly over the six-figure mark. We just saw Alexandre Gomes leaving the room. That struck us as curious, since we counted him at 37,000 less than fifteen minutes ago. Passing by Table 28, we saw Dennis Phillips stacking up 125,000 chips. It's a good bet that he got them from Gomes.
Putting His Jelinek on the Line
You can't make this stuff up. The very same hand matchup which propelled Steve Jelinek to the dizzy heights of 70,000 earlier has just busted him out!
Jelinek got in a preflop raising battle, in position, against Andrey Zaichenko. He eventually stopped short of the five-bet all-in. He made a call of 15,000 to see the flop (with an angry face, though), and moved all-in when Zaichenko bet 15,000.
Jelinek was snap called, and Zacichenko announced, "Aces!" as he flipped to Jelinek's . The turn and river bricked, and Jelinek said, "Almost folded that one as well. Should've folded both!"
Hougaard - way down
Jesper Hougaard has suffered a few setbacks -- he's dropped from over 50,000 to 16,500 in just a couple hands.
First, he doubled up EPT Warsaw winner Joao Barbosa. Hougaard was holding , Barbosa was holding , and a queen on the flop sealed it. Barbosa now on 47,000.
Then, a little while later, Hougaard found himself involved from the cutoff with a gentleman on the big blind. Hougaard bet the flop and the turn of the board, and each time recieved a call from the big blind. Both players checked the river, and the big blind turned over to elicit a muck from Hougaard and take down the pot.
Up on the stage, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is about to attempt a world record sit-n-go challenge -- he has exactly one hour to open as many STTs as possible, then play them to their completion and end up in profit. Sheer craziness. We'll be keeping you updated on that...
