Pagano Picking on His Table

Priyan de Mel opened to 65,000 from the button, and Luca Pagano made the call from the big blind. The dealer presented the two men with a flop of {6-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, and Pagano check/quick-called a bet of 80,000. He checked the {10-Hearts} on the turn, and de Mel checked behind this time.

The {6-Clubs} filled out the board, and Pagano slid out 120,000 chips. After some stares and some fruitless question asking from the Brit, he surrendered his cards.

Double or Nothing for Lauttamus

Juha Lauttamus open-shoved for 548,000 with {8-Hearts} {8-Spades}, and he found action from Jan Skampa (who was still stacking chips from that monster pot). He made the call with {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs}, and the race was on for the Finn's tournament life. That's Lauttamus, by the way.

The dealer ran out a dangerous but ultimately clean board of {Q-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {3-Clubs}. The jacks hold, doubling Lauttamus up over the million-chip mark.

Juha Lauttamus Eliminated in 10th Place (€42,600)

Stefan Mattsson opened to 57,000 from the cutoff, opening a can of worms in the process as he sparked what would become the most exciting hand of the tournament thus far. Next to him, Anthony Roux made a quick call, and action came to Juha Lauttamus. From his small blind, he moved all in for just over 1,000,000 total. Mattsson frowned and folded frustratedly, but Roux quickly announced another call to put the Finn in danger!

Showdown
Roux: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}
Lauttamus: {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts}

The players were flipping a coin for more than two million chips with Lauttamus at risk. And the flop would be an ugly sight indeed. It rolled out {K-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {3-Hearts} to pull Roux into the lead with his pair of kings. A crowd of spectators pressed in around the table, bantering back and forth at machine-gun pace in a myriad of languages. Tournament Director Thomas Kremser was calling the action on the microphone.

He tapped the dealer on the shoulder, she burned a card, and Kremser said, "Juha will now need to catch a jack in order to stay alive..."

Turn: {J-Diamonds}

The crowd all fell one step backwards in shock as Lauttamus had come back to snag a commanding lead in the hand with his full boat. When the commotion settled just a bit, Kremser tapped the dealer agan and called the river:

"Juha doesn't want to see a king..."

River: {K-Clubs}!

Another huge eruption came from the crowd as Roux had re-re-sucked out to make kings full of threes and claim Lauttamus as his victim. Oohs and Aahs lingered around the room for a few seconds as half of the spectators stood with their mouths wide open in disbelief.

It wasn't for lack of trying, but Juha Lauttamus was unable to stay alive on his final hand. He's been eliminated in 10th place, earning himself a pay bump up over €40,000. In other news, Thomas Kremser is clearly some sort of divinely-appointed oracle.

Nine-Handed Play

The final nine players are now seated together at one table. We'll post the seat draw in a second, but for now, let's get the cards back in the air. We'll play on for one more elimination before bagging up for the night.

"Final" Table

Here's how the unofficial final table of nine is laid out. It's an important redraw as the eight who return tomorrow will be configured in the same way.

Seat 1: Priyan de Mel (1,181,000)
Seat 2: Anthony Roux (2,854,000)
Seat 3: Stefan Mattsson (2,429,000)
Seat 4: Laurence Ryan (1,383,000)
Seat 5: Gustav Ekerot (612,000)
Seat 6: Sven Eichelbaum (780,000)
Seat 7: Jan Skampa (3,571,000)
Seat 8: Eyal Avitan (2,550,000)
Seat 9: Luca Pagano (2,082,000)

The chip average is about 1.95 million as we begin nine-handed play.

Skampa Draws First Blood, Second Blood

Little Skamp
Little Skamp
First hand, Eyal Avitan raised under the gun and chip leader Jan Skampa in the big blind was the only caller.

They proceeded to check the {6-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} flop, and when Skampa bet out 170,000 on the {3-Hearts} turn, the pot was his.

Skampa took down the next pot too, with a simple raise from the small blind.

Eichelbaum Loses One, Wins One

Sven Eichelbaum made it 132,000 in the cutoff, but Eyal Avitan made it 315,000 from the small blind. Faced with another (quick calculation) 183,000 to call, Eichelbaum tanked up - and eventually folded.

Possibly steaming, he open-shoved from the hijack next hand, but received no callers. He's back to around what he started nine-handed play with.

Skampa Collects

Under the gun, Jan Skampa opened the pot to 100,000, and Sven Eichelbaum put in the call from the big blind. The flop brought {Q-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {2-Clubs} and a check from the blind. Skampa stacked together a small continuation bet of 80,000, and small though it was, it was big enough to win him the pot quickly.
