Sarwer Vs. Heitmann; Sarwer Wins

Jan Heitmann on the button and Jeff Sarwer in the big blind became somewhat involved when they went heads up to an {A-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} flop. Sarwer checked and Heitmann bet 11,500; after a moment Sarwer attempted to call a mere 10,500. "That is not enough," Heitmann told him, "You may only play one card."

Nevertheless they proceeded, both checking the {3-Hearts} turn. Sarwer checked the {7-Clubs} river too and Heitmann now tried it on for another 22,500. This time, though, Sarwer raised to 53,000, and eventually Heitmann passed.

Visser KO's His Countryman

Ruben Visser opened to 20,000 from late position, and Antoon Pieter Jozef Kleijnen called all in for just less than that. Visser tabled {Q-Spades} {9-Spades}, and Kleijnen was looking for his {A-Clubs} {5-Clubs} to hold up for a double.

The flop was good, coming {A-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} to keep the at-risk Dutchman in the lead. The turn, however, brought the {Q-Hearts}, pulling the other Dutchman in front. Kleijnen stood from his chair as the dealer ran the river card: {7-Hearts}. Unable to win his final pot of the day, the four-named Hollander has been sent to the rail. Despite a few lost pots, Visser is still holding strong at 280,000.

Just 52 players remain as the money bubble approacheth.

Dutch Explosion, and Not in a Good Way

Ricardo Sousa raised from the button, and Johan van Til in the small blind reraised a whole stack of yellow 5,000-denomination chips - not quite covering Sousa, but advertising his intention to put Sousa in. Sousa moved in, van Til was priced in, and it was an extremely easy double up for Sousa.

Sousa: {A-Clubs} {A-Spades}
Van Til: {J-Spades} {9-Diamonds}

Board: {10-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {5-Spades}

Sousa - doubles to 240,000
Van Til - down to 106,000

Lellouche Lurches into the Lead

We joined the action on the turn of the {4-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {K-Spades} board, with both Martin Wendt and Anthony Lellouche checking.

They proceeded in the traditional manner to the river, which was the {Q-Spades}. Wendt now bet out 19,000, but was met with a raise to 40,500 from Lellouche.

"You're running so good you flopped a flush?" Wendt enquired. There was no response from Lellouche, so Wendt assumed no flush and called -- only for Lellouche to turn over {A-Hearts} {J-Spades} for a rivered broadway straight. With a smile and a shake of his head, Wendt paid up and flashed the {K-Hearts}.

Wendt - 235,000
Lellouche - 660,000

Sarwer Not Slowing Down

It looked as though a very substantial quantity of Sergey Lebedev's chips had made their way into the middle by the time we caught up with him on the {4-Spades} {7-Spades} {6-Diamonds} flop. The action is a little hazy, but there was a bet of 60,000 in front of Jeff Sarwer on the button and Lebedev was looking ready to vomit. He folded, and was left with 91,600 while Sarwer raked in the 100,000 or so pot.

The Pace of Play

Considering the stack sizes at both the top and the bottom of the board, play is surprisingly timid for now. Just four players have been eliminated in the last hour, and there's no sign of that pace quickening any time soon.

For the short stacks, it seems nobody wants to double them up. A few of them have been shoving every few hands, but so far they aren't finding any takers. For the big stacks, it seems that the tables are mostly content to let them pick up the blinds and antes a couple times per orbit. Some of the, well, better players in the room are actually playing poker, but those who aren't comfortable splashing around are choosing to just sit tight and wait for cards.
