Day 4 Dawns

The bass-and-drum music is pumping through the speakers in the Casino Vilamoura, and the dealers are all bobbing their heads in time as they suit their decks and pass out the chip bags. The floor staff is scurrying around the room, roping off a spectator area and tidying up all of the loose ends. The coffee machine was full five minutes ago, but it's nearly empty now. All of this can only mean one thing. It's time for Day 4.

After the first four days of action at the PokerStars.com EPT Vilamoura, we are down to our final 24 players. They'll be back in their seats in just a few minutes for the run to the final table.

It's no surprise to see Antony Lellouche and Jeff Sarwer atop the leader board. Both men have played near-flawless poker this week, and both are familiar with their positions here. Still, the pack is chasing them, and there are plenty of chips to go around the room. It figures to be an exciting day of poker.

The cards should be in the air in about 15 minutes; we'll be back with the shuffle up and deal.

There's Always One

Everyone seems to have made it out of bed on time today - except Mr. Claudio Coelho and his big diamond earring. If anyone has Mr. Coelho's number, please let him know that play is underway and his stack is being blinded off.

Mohamed Razab Eliminated in Massive Cooler, 24th Place (€10,151)

An ugly cooler of an exit for Mohamed Razab as he raised from the button, only to be met with a reraise from Jan Skampa in the small blind. Razab moved all in, Skampa called, and they were on their backs.

Razab: a pretty premium {A-Spades} {K-Spades}
Skampa: the ultimate goods with {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts}

Board: {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs}

Huffing and puffing in disbelief at the early-morning meanness of the poker gods, Razab hits the rail.

How About Aces Versus Kings?

Under the gun, Ricardo Sousa raised to 14,000, and Antoino Matias re-raised to 25,000 in middle position. On the button, Matt Johns four-bet to 78,000 enough to quickly fold Sousa. Matias, though, announced an all in for 293,500. Johns instantly called, turning over {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}. Matias took another 10 or 15 seconds to push his stacks over the line one-by-one, then he slapped his {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} down on the felt. Johns had Matias covered by about 70,000, so it was the Portuguese native who was all in and at risk.

The dealer would run out a safe board for him: {8-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {6-Spades} {4-Clubs} {9-Clubs}. With his aces holding, Matias has picked up a huge double over 600,000. Johns is left with just those 70,000 chips and a big frown.

Matt Johns Elliminated in 23rd Place (€10,151)

One hand after losing 80% of his stack, Matt Johns moved all in for just about 70,000 first into the pot. Action came to Ricardo Sousa in the big blind, and he apologized. He showed {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} and said, "I'm sorry, I have to call. This is sick."

If he thought it was sick, you can imagine how Johns felt. He shook his head and tabled {7-Hearts} {7-Spades}, once again behind -- only this time, it was for the rest of his chips. Johns would turn a gutshot draw, but the board of {9-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {Q-Spades} ultimately sealed his fate.

Johns couldn't get out of the room fast enough. After running into pocket aces two hands in a row, he has been knocked off in 23rd place.
