Boeree Set Up

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Liv Boeree has dropped another 18,000 or so chips on what she herself described as a "sick flop."

Joining the hand as the dealer was sweeping the chips into one big pile, it looked as if Filip Nechansky had raised preflop in middle position to 3,300 and both Jani Rasinen and Boeree called from the small and big blind respectively.

Flop: {q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Spades} - Rasinen checked, as did Boeree but Nechansky made it 5,600 to play. Boeree quickly called once Rasinen mucked his hand.

Turn: {3-Spades} - Boeree once again checked and then called a 10,500 bet from Nechansky.

River: {a-Spades} - Neither player liked the ace of spades and both checked.

Boeree turned over {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} but it was no good as her opponent turned over {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a flopped two pair.

"It's a set up," declared Boeree as the chips found their way to Nechansky's stack.

Kabrheliminated

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Martin Kabrhel
Martin Kabrhel

Martin Kabrhel is out after a disappointing first level here on Day 2. Although he started the day out-chipping his eventual eliminator Antoine Saout 3:1, he'd dropped to under 45,000 and Saout had him covered when they finally clashed. Kabrhel was already walking towards the exit when we arrived at the table, although an {A-}{9-} was the winning hand in front of Saout (two pair on the board).

Gavin Makes His Flight

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

We found Fintan Gavin looking at a {j-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop, a large bet/raise in front of him on the felt. Orpen Kisacikoglu thought about it for a long time before making the call.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and Gavin promptly announced all in for around 60,000, roughly two thirds pot. He stood up and stood behind his chair, staring at Kisacikoglu with an expression that was predominantly weariness.

"Set one more time?" enquired Kisacikoglu after a while.

Gavin glanced at his watch. "I fly tonight at six," he explained.

Kisacikoglu continued to dwell up. "King-jack," he eventually decided; after a while longer in the tank, he made the call.

"Yah, it was a good call," Gavin immediately reassured him.

Gavin: {j-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Kisacikoglu: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

River: {8-Hearts}

Gavin headed for the door and then presumably the airport. "He acts all the time," Kisacikoglu told the table as he raked in the pot; on 280,000 he is now among our bigger stacks.

Discretion is the Better Part of Valor

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Alexander Luber did not fall into a river trap set by Kaspars Renga just now, despite having bet his way through the streets on the button. Preflop raiser Luber's last bet had come on the turn of a {4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{A-Clubs} board, called by small blind Renga. On the {5-Hearts} river, Renga checked once again and Luber checked behind, despite having made two pair on the river with his {A-}{5-}. Renga showed {A-Spades}{J-Spades} with slight chagrin and took the pot as it was.

Vaserfirer-ing Blanks

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Oleksander Vaserfirer has seen his stack drop under the 100,000 mark after folding to a three-bet shove on the flop.

Salvatore Irace opened the betting with a raise to 4,000 from early position, a bet that only Vaserfirer called from the big blind. A flop of {k-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Spades} saw Vaserfirer check, Irace bet 8,300 and Vaserfirer check-raise to 16,600!

Irace instantly moved all in for what turned out to be 55,000, which Vaserfirer decided was too much to call, although it took him almost three minutes to decide this!

Naydenov Busto in Surprise Set Shocker

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Dirk Richter
Dirk Richter

Funny game, sometimes. Simeon Naydenov exited laughing just now, but in a slightly hysterical-sounding way after an unexpected hand took the rest of his 35k stack. Naydenov raised preflop to 3,600 and picked up four callers (Dirk Richter first, then the button and both blinds).

The flop: {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Check to the raiser, who checked, as did Richter and Florian Langmann on the button.

A free turn: {10-Diamonds}. Now Naydenov bet 13,800 when it checked to him again, called instantly by Richter and no one else.

The river: {3-Hearts}. Naydenov shipped in his final 20,000 and Richter simply said, "Call," without bothering to move any chips. They were all coming his way anyhow, as while Naydenov showed {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}, Richter had flopped a bigger set with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}!

Naydenov actually slapped his own forehead with an audible, "Thwack!" before taking his leave with rueful giggles.

Jorgensen Sent Back to Denmark

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Theo Jorgensen
Theo Jorgensen

Day 1a chip leader Elias Brussianos opened to 3,600 and Antonio Buonanno called in the cutoff before Theo Jorgensen shoved for 15,700 on the button. Back to Brussianos, who four-bet a whole stack of yellow T5k chips which was enough to scare off Buonanno. The cards were turned over, and Jorgensen was soon heading for the door.

Jorgensen: {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Brussianos: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}

Board: {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

Cody Culpable

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Cody Culp has doubled through Guillaume Darcourt with {a-}{k-} against pocket threes; for some reason Darcourt was furious when the ace dropped on the flop and he wandered off to the rail for a while.

Culp doubled to 110,000, Darcourt dropped to a little under 130,000.

Romanello Stacks 'Em High - Literally

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Roberto Romanello has continued to add to his already ample stack by picking his spots well but also flopping sets helps a great deal too.

Ion Pavel opened the betting round with a raise from early position to 4,000 and both Joseph El Khoury in the cutoff and Romanello in the small blind made the call.

Romanello checked the {10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop, Pavel followed suit but El Khoury made it 6,600 to play. Romanello sat motionless for around a minute before clicking it back with a raise to 13,300. Pavel quickly mucked but El Khoury came along for the ride.

Both players checked the {5-Hearts} turn but Romanello bet 15,600 when the {k-Spades} arrived on the river. This bet was too big for El Khoury to call and he mucked his hand. It turned out to be a good fold as Romanello turned over {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a flopped set of sixes.

Most players stack their chips in piles of 10 or 20 chips but Romanello is a little different in that he simply piles every chip he has on top of each other making it very difficult to count them accurately. After spending an age trying to count them, I pegged him on 233,000.

Stop Press! Monfort Moving Up

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Ronan his stack up.
Ronan his stack up.

Erstwhile media member Ronan Monfort has had an up and down sort of day - he told us that he doubled up on the fifth hand of the day, but dropped back again when his aces got cracked by a short stack's pocket jacks.

Just now, though, he started heading back in the right direction as he faced a {j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} flop. Rasmus Nielsen checked in the small blind and Ronan Collet bet 4,400. Monfort and Nielsen both called, and they saw a {4-Clubs} turn. This time it checked around to Monfort who bet 11,400, and both his opponents quickly passed.

Monfort's back up to around 65,000.
