Candid Camera

A player in middle position opened with a raise, and Miami John Cernuto reraised to 2,200 two seats over. When it came back to the original raiser, he moved all in for 12,225, and Cernuto quickly called to put him at-risk.

"All in and a call!" the dealer announced. Like a team of drunken toddlers, the camera crew clumsily made their way to the table. In fairness to them, they're trying to lug a couple dozen pounds of equipment through spaces too narrow for Calista Flockhart to squeeze through. In any event, at least one table was knocked over, and at least one glass was broken as they tried to give their cameras a glimpse of the small, really uninteresting race. "This Day 1 stuff is stupid," Jason Mercier said from across the table. Agreed.

In any event, the cards were already laying on their backs by the time the cameras arrived:

Cernuto: {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Spades} {K-Clubs}

There was a king on the flop to keep the at-risk player alive, and he survived to double up over 25,000. Cernuto is still up over 40,000, though that's about half of what he had early in the day.

Flying Hei

Dan Heimiller has got back above his starting stack after a shortie pushed for 13,000 with {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} against Heimiller's own {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. The board came down a harmless {9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{j-Spades}{9-Clubs} (although a third player banged the table in anger when the ace dropped) and Heimiller increased his stack to 44,000.

Silence is Golden

The sound of riffling chips and quiet conversation was just briefly broken when somehow Dave Ulliott managed to get a hold of the announcing microphone and sing the first few bars of "Try A Little Tenderness".

Certainly made for a confusing minute or so as everyone was wondering what on earth was going on...

So Soulier Me

Fabrice Soulier is up to 85,000 after another player moved in on the {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop and Soulier called. The short-stacked player's {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flush draw failed to come in on the {2-Hearts} turn or {6-Hearts} river, and Soulier's {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} held up to put him up to around double the average.

In fact it's a good day for the whole Soulier household - across the way, Soulier's girlfriend Claire Renaut is doing rather well too, on 70,000.

Bansi Curse Continues

Praz Bansi has something of a curse on him. The two-time WSOP bracelet winner has a list of cashes that is the envy of many a pro, and with almost $2.5 million in live tournament earnings, he is among the most successful of our poker exports from the UK.

Except in EPTs.

Bansi has played pretty much every EPT since its inception, but has never cashed. Never. Not once. He cashed at the PCA this January, but that one's turned into an NAPT now so it doesn't count.

Bansi will not be cashing in this EPT either, as he's just hit the rail. He found pocket queens, but another player found pocket kings, and it was all over very swiftly.

Better luck next time, Praz.

Here Comes The Money...

Chris Moneymaker is back on the way up, getting paid off for 6,625 (Ooh, a rainbow bet featuring a yellow 5k, a red 1k, a purple 500, a black 100 and a green 25 chip) on a {Q-Spades} {8-Spades} {7-Clubs} {3-} {2-} board.

Moneymaker showed {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} and scooped a pot that seemed to have more greens in it that your mother tried to make you eat when you were five years old. Moneymaker looks to be back over the 30,000 mark after that.
