Day 2 Started

Welcome To Day 2 of EPT Barcelona!

Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the 2010 EPT Barcelona, brought to you by PokerStars.com, where 399 players who survived the two official Day 1s will return to the Casino de Barcelona, each with a chance of walking away with a share of the gargantuan €3,790,000 prize pool!

A massive 495 players took part in yesterday's Day 1b and to put that into perspective for you, remember than only 428 players took part in the entire tournament last year!

Of the 399 hopefuls who return today, only 112 of them will be going home with prize money, which will range from €7,500 in the first few payout spots, to €70,000 for reaching the final table of eight and the aforementioned €825,000 for being crowned champion.

In the lead as we go into the day is Luis Rufas. The Spaniard came 41st here last year for €18,000, and will presumably be looking to improve on that result this time around. He's in possession of a commanding 232,100 right now.

It's not going to be an easy ride to Day 3, though. Also holding a lot of chips right now are Argentinian Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez on 164,400, garrulous Welshman Roberto Romanello with 159,200 and Amsterdam Master Classics winner Kristoffer Thorsson on 120,900. Also still in, albeit with more modest stacks, are Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Carlos Mortensen, Johnny Lodden and Liv Boeree.

When play resumes at 1200 noon local time we expect a flurry of eliminations as some of the shorter stacks employ a "go big or go home" approach, so please bear with us as we bring you updates as quickly as we possibly can.

Tune back in at noon for the very best in live tournament coverage. Be there or be square as they say!

Over on PokerStars, Club PokerNews are pleased to announce we have several exclusive $15,000 Sunday Million & $2,000 PCA Freerolls that you cannot find anywhere else.

A Worthy Feature Table

Table 15 is today's feature table and it is easy to see why. It is home to no fewer than three Team PokerStars Pro's along with the current leader in the EPT Player of the Year standings, Fernando Brito.

Seat 1: Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier - Team PokerStars France - 88,000
Seat 2: Nuno Coelho - Team PokerStars Portugal - 48,600
Seat 3: Noah Boeken - Team PokerStars Netherlands - 30,700
Seat 4: Fernando Brito - Current POY leader - 24,400
Seat 5: Allan Sice - 37,200
Seat 6: Danny Ryan - 43,000
Seat 7: Phillippe Belley - 81,000
Seat 8: Thomas Froeslev - 126,700
Seat 9: Kimmo Puusa - 85,500

Oops

It has just come to our attention that a gentleman was missing from last night's chip counts. He is one Sebastien Bovyn of France, who is in possession of 42,200. This means that we actually started today with a round 400 players instead of the 399 we thought we had.

An Early Double Up For Ferguson

As expected there has been a flurry of all-ins in the opening few minutes of Day 2, with me being able to catch one on Table 33.

Andrew Ferguson had moved all-in for 21,300 chips from the cutoff and found a caller in Israeli Shalom Turgeman.

Ferguson: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Turgeman: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Flop: {k-Hearts}{a-Spades}{6-Diamonds} A great flop for Ferguson

Turn: {q-Hearts} Although Turgeman now has outs to a Broadway Straight, Ferguson looks unfazed

River: {2-Hearts} The two of hearts completes the hand and Ferguson doubles up on the first hand.

"See, I've made you famous," said Turgeman, referring to the television cameras circling, desperate to catch an elimination. Sorry boys, you'll have to wait a little longer for one of those.

Pellegrino Swoops In For His Prey

Online heads-up specialist Bryan "Primordial_AA" Pellegrino has added a nice chunk of change to his stack after clashing with Michael Degilio early on.

Degilio opened the betting with a raise to 2,300 from early position, the next player folded but Pellegrino three-bet to 5,300. The action folded back around to Degilio who quickly made it 10,100 in total, a bet that his opponent simply called.

Flop: {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Spades}

Degilio checked then instantly mucked as Pellegrino made it 17,000 to play. Pellegrino now has 60,000 chips

Day 2 Level Nine - An Early Round Up

Boy these day two's start off with a bang. Here is a round up of some of the early action.

Our chip leader Luis Rufas started Day 2 in the same fashion as he finished Day 1 - winning chips! We caught him on a flop of {6-Clubs} {q-Diamonds} {j-Hearts} in a blind battle with Edouard Jean Georges Mignot Bonnefous. Rufus had bet 8,700 on the flop and Bonnefous reluctantly folded.

We have lost serial EPT casher Joao Barbosa. Barbosa was all-in pre flop with {a-Spades} {k-Clubs} dominating Leandro Balotin's {a-Hearts} {q-Spades}. The flop gave them both a momentary delight when it came down {q-Diamonds} {k-Hearts} {4-Clubs}, the turn {2-Hearts} didn't change anything but the river {q-Hearts} did as it sent an unlucky Barbosa over to the rail.

Erik Van Den Berg has doubled up Jose Javier Patiño Gonzalez over at Table 18. Van Den Berg held {a-Hearts} {7-Hearts} and Gonzalez {8-Spades} {q-Hearts}. The board was {j-Spades} {8-Hearts} {9-Spades} {9-Hearts} {3-Spades}.

Alexandru Razvan Marin has eliminated Urs Kohler when his {8-Spades} {10-Clubs} hit a straight on the {5-Clubs} {a-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs} board. Kohler was holding Ace Queen.

Pokerstars Online Qualifier Bryn Kenney has doubled up through Georgios Souvorov. Kenney was holding {j-Clubs} {7-Clubs} and Souvorov a pair of Queens on a flop of {j-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {10-Spades}. The turn was the {7-Hearts} to break Souvorov's heart. The river {3-Hearts} was no help and Kenney has 125,000.

Akkari Carries On

Andre Akkari was all in with a slightly sick expression on his face when he arrived. It was a classic coinflip that he would ultimately win, though, and by the end of the hand he'd doubled up to almost 70,000.

Akkari: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Gentleman opponent: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Board: {k-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
