2 Down, 6 to Go

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

We are a quarter of the way through our extremely manageable Day 1b and players are off on their first break of the day. Back in 15 minutes.

Frank Op de Woerd Update

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

If Frank Op de Woerd continues to find the game this easy we may lose him from the blogosphere forever!

Op de Woerd opened up with a raise to 400 and he received three callers. The flop was {10-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} and the small blind checked to Op de Woerd who bet 700. Basil Yaiche called behind as did the very loose player in the small blind. The turn was the {9-Spades} and the small blind checked and Op de Woerd bet again, this time making it 1,800. Yaiche folded and the loose player in the small blind called despite only having 2,000 behind him.

The river was the {8-Clubs} and both players checked. Op de Woerd took the hand down with {j-Hearts} {10-Hearts} and his opponent mucked his hand.

Not content with that hand Op de Woerd proceeded to take down the next two hands without too much fuss and now has 40,000 to his name.

Further Than You Spink

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We only got there in time to see the pot being raked in by Jean Noel Thorel, while young Brit Jon Spinks' seat was empty and a figure was disappearing off into the distance. Pocket fives were still face up in front of Thorel, and there was a third five on the board, among other things.

Conclusion - Spinks is busto, and Thorel is now the possessor of around 70,000 in chips.

Negreanu Has New Goal

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

According to his Twitter feed, Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu, has a new goal and that is to claw back to his original 30,000 starting stack.

He is making progress as this hand shows.

Julien Yomtob opened to 525 in middle position and Kent Lundmark called in the cut-off. Negreanu made the squeeze from the small blind making it 1,825 to play and both players made the call giving us a 5,500 pot going to the flop.

The flop was {6-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} and Negreanu bet 2,750 which left 7,600 behind. Both players folded and Negreanu took another baby step towards his goal.

Girl on Girl

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Almira Skripchenko
Almira Skripchenko

A bit of lady-on-lady action now as chess prodigy Almira Skripchenko took on journalist Estelle Denis in a sizeable pot. Denis, the wife of former French football manager Raymond Domenech, had fired out 2,350 on the turn of a {4-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {8-Clubs} {10-Hearts} board only for Skripchenko to raise to 6,000.

Sports journalist Denis made the call before leading out again for 6,000 on the {9-Spades} river and Skripchenko made a fairly quick, crying call. Denis looked a little uncomfortable thinking that her {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts} probably wasn't good and indeed Skripchenko turned over {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} to boost her own stack to 58,000.

Levi Handled a Four Bet

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Nicolas Levi opens the action from early position with a raise to 550, Pokerstars Qualifier Alex Wice made the three-bet to 1,700 and then Pokerstars Qualifier Martin Jacobson made the four-bet to 4,000.

Some confusion then ensued after Nasrodin Pirmamod had called Wice's bet but had not noticed the bet of Jacobson. An official was called for and the conversation took place in French so I we are not sure what was said but Pirmamod was allowed to take his chips back and fold his hand.

The action then fell back to Levi who called before Wice folded. The flop was {3-Spades} {10-Spades} {k-Hearts} and Levi checked to Jacobson who made a bet of 4,000. Levi counted out his chips and had 18,500 remaining. He then made a check-raise to 8,800 and Jacobson smiled before mucking his hand.
