Gregory Lhomer open-shoved from the cutoff and Kaspars Renga called from the big blind.
Lhomer:
Renga:
Board: making Renga a straight.
Lhomer and Renga were both pretty short at the start of the hand. Renga is now slightly less short on 340,000; Lhomer is so short you can't see him at all - busto.
Didier Mazairac has lost a pretty hefty pot, but at least his fold was vindicated.
The board read when we arrived and the pot already comprised around 600,000 chips. William Johnson had bet 200,000 leaving Mazairac with a torturous decision. He tanked up for a long, long time before asking, "If I fold, you show?" - that classic sign of an impending fold. Sure enough, he passed, showing his opponent for top pair. Johnson showed him pocket fours for a set, and though Mazairac's stack has been almost bisected he'll be able to sleep easy tonight.
Amin Karout has waited and waited for a hand. Then along comes a pair of aces and he tells himself that tight was right after all. That is until smashes his pair of aces to bits.
Karout is first to act and moves all-in; William Johnson makes the call in the small blind. Mathew Franklan also makes the call in the big blind and you start to believe that this board is going to get checked down on every street. In fact it does get checked down until the river. The board was showing when Johnson bet 40,000 and Frankland made the call.
Johnson showed his for the straight, Frankland mucked unseen cards and Karout couldn't believe his luck because his pair of aces, that improved to trips on the flop had been beaten.
Johnson moved up to 1.6 million and Karout moved out of the building
Laurent Polito has enjoyed a massive double up to 1.5 million, his turning out well against Ahmed Abd El Fatah's pocket nines on a board. The hapless Abd El Fatah was left with just 145,000.
We catch the action on a board of and Lambert bets 84,000. Martin Jacobson calls as does Ahmed Abdel Fatah in the small blind and the big blind folds.
The river is the and Abdel Fatah checks to Lambert. Lambert counts out a bet of 160,000 consisting of 100,000 in grey 5,000 chips and 60,000 in 10,000 blue chips. Then he makes his mistake as he puts his pile of blue chips across the line in a string bet motion. Jacobson notices this and alerts the dealer who tells Lambert to take his 100,000 in grey chips back and his 60,000 blue chip bet has to stand. Jacobson and Abdel Fatah now have a much easier call to make.
Lambert shows but Jacobson has a better hand. Abdel Fatah folded.
Nicolo Calia open-shoved from the cutoff and found Kaspars Renga re-shoving from the small blind. On their backs, gentlemen.

With a gentlemanly chuckle, the Italian veteran was gone. This is the seventh time he's made the last four tables at an EPT, but he will alas not be making his second final table this time around.
