Day 4 Started

Welcome to Day 4 of the PokerStars.Fr EPT Deauville

Raphael Kroll
Raphael Kroll

Welcome back to Day 4 of the EPT here in Deauville where Raphael Kroll leads the field of 90 players as we play down to the final three tables. The Frenchman, who recently finished second to Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst in a big European tournament sits with 829,000, just 12,000 chips ahead of nearest rival Fabian Holling.

Elsewhere, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier is the only former EPT winner still in the tournament, a fact which surprised him as much as the rest of us. Double bracelet winner Praz Bansi is also still in the hunt, as is EPT Vilamoura runner-up Martin Jacobson and former chip leader David Sonelin.

All remaining players are now guaranteed €9,000 but the really significant pay jumps are not until the final two tables, meaning we'll be expecting a lot more action in the early stages of today. This also marks the last day we will be in the Centre International de Deauville since the tournament will be moving back into the casino on days five and six as the EPT builds to a climax.

So stayed tuned here from 12pm local time as we bring you all the action from the first riffle to the final river!

Big Stack Leverage

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante

It is a gloriously sunny day with a crisp feel to it here in Deauville. Everyone was present and correct with the exception of the only previous EPT winner left in the tournament. Team Pokerstars Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier arrived a few hands later than his opponents and was followed by a hoard of cameramen and camerawomen. He is seated on table 12 and shares the table with fellow Team Pokerstars Pro and countryman Thomas Bichon and Fabian Holling so the action should be white hot over at table 12.

The big stacks seem to be starting well by applying the pressure on the medium to small stacks as these example hands demonstrate.

Fabrizio Baldassari, opened up from the cut off to 20,000 and Mathew Frankland three bet to 57,000 on the button forcing the fold. Fabian Holling raised to 17,000 on the button and Kewin Lambert called in the small blind. The flop was {9-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {8-Hearts} and Lambert checked to Holling and a 27,500 bet took it down. Then finally in another demonstration of big stack power Michel Betting raised to 17,000 and Rory Rees Brennan put Betting all-in and he folded.

Fried to Go Deep?

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante

A lot of chips had already found their way into the middle before the {j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop. Fried Meulders checked it to Eric Sfez, who bet 72,000, increasing the tension in the room by (we estimate) 25%. Meulders paused for a while and then made the call. The tension increased a little more.

The turn was the {k-Spades} and Meulders checked again. Over to Sfez, who now bet 82,000. The air crackled between them. Back again to Meulders, and it was a wonder that he could even move his arm through the air, so tense was the atmosphere, but when he did it was to push his whole stack across the line - another 100,000 or so.

Sfez gave it up, and everyone could breathe again.

Sfez is at 185,000 after that, Meulders up to 520,000.

An Active Bichon

Coolness Personified
Coolness Personified

We reported earlier that Thomas Bichon was sharing a table with Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Fabian Holling - well that is no longer true. Bichon has been moved to table ten and he has been very active.

Here is some action from Bichon's new table.

Ruslan Prydyrk opened the action with a raise to 19,000 from early position, Bichon called in the small blind and so did Ahmed Abdel Fatah in the big blind. The flop was {a-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {4-Spades} and everyone checked. The turn was the {3-Spades} and Bichon bet 33,000, Abdel Fatah folded and Prydyrk called. The river was the {6-Hearts} and both players checked. Prydyrk picked up the pot with {10-Hearts} {10-Clubs} and Bichon did not pick up the pot with his {k-Hearts} {q-Hearts}.

This did not deter Bichon who then made it 17,000 from the button and Prydyrk once again called in the big blind. The flop was {9-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} and Prydyrk check-called a 21,000 Bichon bet. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and both players checked. The river was the {8-Clubs} and Prydyrk checked to Bichon who overbet the pot making it 80,000 to play and Prydyrk folded.

Bichon again raised, this time making it 18,000 to play, Abdel Fatah and Prydyrk again called. A Bichon 33,000 bet on the {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {a-Hearts} flop took it down.

Michael Oestreicher
Michael Oestreicher

Michel Betting has been knocked out by Bruno Launais in a classic coinflip, {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} holding against {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} on a {Q-Spades} {10-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} board.

Michael Oestreicher has also been eliminated.
